Qualifications:Possession of a valid TB test and health examination issued by the local county board of health or recognized medical authorityEducation/formal training/licensure/certification/experience:Registered nurse, currently licensed in North Carolina or a registered nurse working toward baccalaureate degree, and national school nurse certification to be completed within 3 years of hire date.A minimum of one to three years of nursing experience working with young children and adolescents (ages 5 - 18).Current NC driver's licenseAdditional Skills:Effective communicator with a wide range of age groups, ethnic, educational, and socio-economic backgroundsStrong physical assessment skillsFluency in English and Spanish preferredSupervises:

Uses of the nursing process to assess, plan and evaluate the health care of individual students as well as groups of students in schoolsIdentifies children with special health care needs and develops health care plans and emergency action plansMonitor's kindergarten health assessment and immunization records and facilitates completionParticipates on coordinated school health teams as appropriateProvides nursing care to school-age children, adolescents and school staff in the school system by:Organizing/completing periodic health screenings assuring follow-up, provides care and refers for servicesImplementing an effective medication administration systemSupervising/assisting with prescribed treatments/proceduresProviding for emergency care of illness/injuryProviding care for children with chronic illnessUses equipment/supplies correctlyAssures use of appropriate safety and infection control measuresAssures compliance with communicable disease standardsMonitors the school environment for health and safety issuesTeaches/directs/advises/informs othersDevelops workshops/training activities for school personnel on health-related topicsProvides individual explanation(s) to students, parents, and appropriate staff regarding prevention, illness, treatment, etc.Creates communications and communication processes for the programsInforms family/school staff of community resourcesSupervises school personnel and volunteers assisting with the school health programsReports/records dataDocuments patient data, plan of care, care rendered and response to care for individual studentsReports significant data regarding student health status to appropriate individualsProvides program reports in a timely mannerAppropriately reports health and safety issues in the school environmentPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisorPhysical and Cognitive Requirements
