Position Summary Chartered is actively seeking a dynamic and experienced Full-Time Construction Staff Accountant to join its Boulder office. This position will be responsible for executing all monthly accounting and other accounting-related activities, including general bookkeeping, processing accounts payable, bank reconciliations, construction loan draws, job cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and filing and maintaining organized accounting records, among other accounting-related activities as needed. This role will report directly to the Vice President, Finance with a direct line to the President of the Company. This presents a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to gain immediate, hands-on experience with key financial processes pertaining to multifamily construction, development, and property management. Key Functions Performing general monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and bookkeeping functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and journal entries Assembling information for monthly construction loan draws, including client billings packages in accordance with contract terms and conditions Preparation of bank deposits, monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations, and cash receipt entries and cash management Ensuring receipt of required vendor/subcontractor documentation, including invoices, insurance, bonding, SDI, workers compensation, statutory declarations, and lien waivers (as applicable) Interpreting trade partner documentation for accounting-related items Providing project teams with ad hoc reports and analysis, as needed Maintaining organization of internal filing system Completing all financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner Cultivating relationships with accounting equivalents in client and subcontractor offices Performing other accounting and construction-related duties as required Core Competencies Ability to successfully manage multiple projects while meeting competing deadlines Ability to work in a composed, professional manner under pressure in a fast-paced environment Performs well independently with minimal supervision Positive and accountable working approach with internal and external stakeholders Organized and detail-oriented approach to assignments Strong interpersonal and communication skills Interested in improving processes and implementing standards Candidates interested in building a long-term career in a growing organization Other Requirements Basic knowledge of theoretical and practical accounting skills, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Driver’s license, working vehicle and automobile insurance Ability and willingness to reliably commute to office or planning to relocate before starting work in Boulder, CO office Proficiency with computers and Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Project Must be willing and enthusiastic about learning new software and systems, including Yardi, Procore, QuickBooks, among others Education and Experience Undergraduate degree required Degree in accounting or construction considered an asset At least 1 year of professional accounting experience in construction or a related industry preferred Work Environment Chartered runs a small, family-oriented office, so a “Yes” attitude is vital to success in this role. This position is full-time and located in Chartered’s Boulder, CO office. Work is required to be performed in-person in the office. This is not a remote position. There may be periods of extended work hours as well as stressful periods of work that require flexibility and patience. Candidates must be able to receive direction as well as be able to communicate and give clear, consistent instruction and/or feedback to others. This is a big position where there is no task too small. All employees wear multiple hats, which keeps everyday new and exciting.
