Position Summary

Under general supervision, provides independent acute and/or routine medical care to a specified population. Provides consultation and advice to others as a highly-specialized practitioner. May supervise support staff in an out-of-hours or remote clinical setting.

Duties and Responsibilities to include:

Seeing Patients in Clinic - Helping Total Joints Surgeons in Clinic. Assess, diagnose and develop treatment plans, implement treatment, follow-up and evaluate patient within the scope of practice protocols as outlined by state statute. Perform patient history and physical exams as needed for procedures or admissions. Document finding noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings. Help make handouts for patients, and update intake forms. Reach out to both pre-op and post-op patients and process prescriptions. Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plan with patient and family as necessary to achieve improved health. Provide education for patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues and use of the prescribed medical treatment.Occasional first assist in surgery. Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Bachelor's degree;no previous experience required.Certification/LicensureEligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's AssistantORState of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner or certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in clinical patient care.Experience with EMR Cerner Software.Two years plus directly related experience.Specialization in orthopaedics; total joint experiencea plus.Ability to work in collaboration with orthopaedicsurgeons, nurses, advanced practice providers, and ambulatory staff.Ability to act as a role model through conduct,appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decisionmaking, critical thinking and problem solving skills.Flexibility and willingness to overcome and learn achallenging EHR.We train and advance both new and experienced APP'sthrough ongoing skill development.
