Thanks to the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos' presence in the area, Los Alamos also has a college-town vibe that's a major draw for young professionals, families and retirees.Position SummaryThe Training Department is comprised of 3 training components that support the Engineering & Nuclear Safety Programs at N3B: Site Training, Environmental Remediation and Contact Handled-Transuranic Waste (CH-TRU). The primary mission of N3B is to protect the environment and remove legacy waste off the Los Alamos site. The Training Specialist 2 is responsible for the design and delivery of programs to train all levels of personnel for the entire workforce (approximately 650 employees). This includes evaluating and providing oversight of other training personnel including contractors and vendors. The Training Specialist develops in-house programs and practices to identify developmental needs, including preparing personnel for more responsible positions with increasing effectiveness. The Training Specialist is viewed as a generalist in the field and as highly competent within the broad training discipline, both internally and externally to the organization. The training specialist works with customers, stakeholders and regulators, ensuring that training programs meet customer needs, regulatory drivers, and contractual requirements.This position reports to the N3B Site Training Manager.Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):Design and deliver programs to train all levels of professionalsDevelop tests and visual aids, developing criteria for evaluating effectiveness of trainingAudit formal qualification and certification programsDevelop and maintain curriculaDevelop training policies, procedures, processes, tools, formats, templates, and examplesMentor coordinators, other training specialists, and support staffManage training recordsWork with Apprentices in various established Apprenticeship programs, positions, and levels of experience within those programsAssist in the development of technical procedures supporting specific programsAdhere to policies and programs concerning the N3B's training programMust have a general knowledge and understanding of the DOEMust have ability to learn, assimilate and train others on a variety of subjects such as safety, security, Quality Assurance and/or nuclear operationsKeeping abreast of training and development research: learning theory, motivation theory, and new materials, methods, and techniquesMay evaluate and oversee contractors or vendors to develop and administer training programsMinimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):General knowledge of DOE Order 426.2; and other guidance for training and qualifications records especially those impacting nuclear facilities and activitiesKnowledge of learning management systemsDemonstrated proficiency in training program development and delivery, preferably at DOE nuclear facilitiesMethods for identifying regulatory training requirementsKnowledge and experience leading technical teams as well as working as part of a technical teamEffective interpersonal skills with ability to work/interact effectively and amicably with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and with diverse personal attributesExcellent communication skills to effectively convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing to diverse audiencesAbility to train and mentor staff to higher levels of performanceGeneral knowledge of Human Resources practicesLevel of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the jobEducation and Experience Required:Bachelors' degree combined with a minimum of 3 years of relative experience.
