The AWS/Azure Database Administrator must be able to meet the key criteria below:
Location:
Initially remote support with hybrid support in Suitland, MD after pandemic
Years’ Experience:
7+ years
Education:
Bachelor’s in computer science, computer engineering, cyber security or other relevant IT field
Security Clearance:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
Citizenship:
Must currently be a United States citizen
Key Skills:
Strong experience working with database cloud (AWS) or Azure administration (i.e., Postgres, SQL, Oracle)
Experience with DBA activities such as patching, backup/recovery, maintenance, troubleshooting and database monitoring
Experience with migration to the cloud and with automation and infrastructure as code (CloudWatch/Terraform)
AWS or Azure certification required
Overview
Do you want to help IBR build a portfolio of next-generation data collection systems? The AWS/Azure Database Administrator is responsible for integration and implementation of the public cloud infrastructure that will support Census Systems Enterprise Database shared services. The AWS Engineer will adhere to internal team standards and processes as well as documentation for the design, implementation, operations, and accreditation of COTS infrastructure management solutions. You will build and integrate new systems and assist in the migration of applications, COTS, GOTS, and FOSS products to public cloud resources; provide technological recommendations of infrastructure solutions; implement the solution(s) required to fulfill system and solution level requirements; and support development, integration, test and validation activities to prove system effectiveness, performance, and readiness during critical test events.
Responsibilities
Operational responsibilities will include supervising performance of database installations, configurations, and migrations as required
Proactively diagnosing and resolving problems affecting database systems
Maintaining database configurations in compliance with release management, change management, and office of information security requirements
Perform daily activities like production support and continuous database monitoring.
Deploy Hot/Cold Backup and Recovery of databases using RMAN
Deploy Database Recovery Techniques
Understand the full application stack from the OS through custom applications using Amazon cloud-based computing environments with a focus on database administration
Participate in planning, implementation, and growth of infrastructure on AWS Gov Cloud or Azure
Implements migration efforts with application teams, including data migration
Ability to identify and make recommendations for poor database performance
Helps design and maintain an enterprise-wide baseline of operating systems and software
Identify and improve on possible points of failure in the infrastructure/applications and support troubleshooting incidents
Work closely with our architect and engineers to design and implement scalable software services, networks, systems, and storage environment that effectively reflect business needs, security requirements, and service level requirements
Reviews and provides input to policies and standard operating procedures
Qualifications
Experience with RDS databases (Oracle, Postrgres, MS SQL, Maria) and Aurora databases (MySQL)
Experience with DBA activities such as patching, backup/recovery, maintenance, troubleshooting and database monitoring
Experience with automation and infrastructure as code such as CloudFormation/Terraform
Experience monitoring production database workloads using CloudWatch, OMS, etc.
Experience supporting production database workloads in Postgres, Oracle, MS SQL, and/or MySQL
Experience with migration to the cloud
Experience with system integration and automation and operating/managing AWS infrastructure as code or Azure
Experience integrating databases with other application components (AWS Lambda, Weblogic/Tomcat) or Azure
Ability to create and utilize AWS CloudFormation templates to automate creation of AWS images
Knowledge of AWS or Azure user, security and networking configurations
Experience planning, installing, configuring, patching, and troubleshooting issues on the following platforms:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
Experience with development, designing, building, maintenance, and operations of web application and database environments on AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, ELB, RDS, etc.is a bonus
Experience maintaining and administering with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Docker, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Maven, GitHub, Artifactory, SonarQube in a cloud environment and developing/writing scripts using Shell, Python, Bash or Perl a bonus
