BRIDGE GROUP MANAGER

Pittsburgh & Western PA

The Bridge Group Manager is responsible for managing the activities of the western Pennsylvania Bridge Section within the Bridge Design Group involving the NBIS inspection and design of simple to complex civil engineering bridge and other related structural projects within the transportation sector.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESManages the application of engineering and Smart Transportation principles related to bridge structural type, size, location, reports, and studiesResponsible for development of final plans, specifications and estimates for simple to complex civil engineering bridge and related projects including coordination of related project development activities internal to the company, transportation design/build partnerships, review agencies, and with the clientResponsible for project delivery of simple to complex structural design projects from inception through completion while managing resources, costs, quality, and on-time delivery to include production requirements, project schedules, milestone dates, scopes of work, project designs, cultural and environmental clearances, permits, status reports, public meetings, and plans, specifications and estimates packages related to the structural designsResponsible for developing cost effective designs by right-sizing all bridge design projects, structural value engineering studies, and participation in Value Engineering/Accelerated Bridge Construction when requiredUtilizes engineering and project management software as deemed necessary for the development of cost effective bridge designs, schedule compliance and project management such as: BRADD, MicroStation, and Deltek Financial Management SystemPlans, directs and evaluates the work of subordinate engineering and technical staff, and is responsible for periodic performance evaluations, recommendations for improvement and determination of training needs to meet the goals and objectives of the Bridge SectionAssists in the development of Project-Specific Quality Assurance Plans and ensures that all responsible actions of the Bridge Section meet the requirements of each Plan and the Master Quality Management Plan for the companyAssists in the development of new business opportunities for the company for new highway, bridge and related projects including client meetings, proposal preparation, presentations and contract negotiationParticipates in developing the company's Strategic Plan and development of annual business plans and budgets for the Highway & Bridge Design GroupParticipation in various transportation-related organizations and professional societies to stay abreast of market trends and technical matters, interact with peers and continue to elevate the reputation of the company in the industryRecruit necessary professional and technical talent needed to supplement existing staff in the Highway & Bridge Design Groups.Performs related work as requiredRequirements

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

BSCE from ABET-accredited programPennsylvania P.E. licenseValid Driver's LicenseAbility to travel to field sites and remote locationsHas the legal right to work in the U.S.Knowledge of the principles and practices applicable to the design and construction of bridges, concrete structures, steel structures, prestressed and reinforced structures, and foundationsKnowledge of the principles and practices applicable to the testing of materials and assemblies used in the construction of bridges and other structuresKnowledge of the primary engineering reference works and other sources of engineering data used in the design and construction of bridges and other structuresKnowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of construction cost estimatingKnowledge of the characteristics and properties of natural and manufactured materials used in constructionKnowledge of engineering surveyingKnowledge of soils and materials engineeringSkill in reading and interpreting drawings, standards, and specifications used in design of civil engineering bridge projects.Ability to manage the work of professional, technical, and clerical employeesAbility to prepare, interpret, and utilize civil engineering plans, maps, specifications, reports and contracts related to civil engineering projectsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, business partners, public officials, and contractor employees

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is performed mostly in office settings. Outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites, and public works facilities, which requires the ability to walk on steep and uneven terrain, adjacent to highway traffic and adjacent to operating construction and testing equipment. Exposure to harsh conditions-such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to talk and hear; sit; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to grip, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
