POSITION SUMMARY: This role is based in Las Vegas, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. This position’s primary responsibility is to oversee all direct US and international tax activities. This position ensures that the company and its subsidiaries is tax compliant and remains current with regulatory changes and takes initiative by improving and owning tax related activities. This role will work as part of a greater team responsible for all aspects of income tax accounting, compliance, and audits.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Compliance and Process Improvement Management (40%)
• Oversee all aspects of the income tax compliance;
• Responsible for reviewing and ensuring domestic and international tax forms are complete, accurate and filed on time;
• Responsible for working with state, local, federal, and international tax authorities and/or advisors on direct taxation matters to resolve tax issues;
• Review all federal and foreign income tax payments, including extensions and estimates;
• Oversee all documentation, implementation, and accounting for all income tax processes in accordance with internal controls; ensuring all controls are being followed and documented;
• Partner effectively and proactively with Finance and/or other external/internal parties to drive and implement process improvements.
• Provision calculations (30%)
• Oversee all aspects of the income tax accounting and controls processes;
• Prepare US tax provisions based on ASC 740 analysis including provision to return, interim, year-end calculations, and stand-alone provisions;
• Work with local Financial Controllers to ensure provision to return, interim, year-end calculations, and stand-alone provisions have been completed accurately and on a timely basis;
• Ensure law changes are timely incorporated into the tax provision model to reflect appropriate tax provision calculations;
• Take the lead in compiling audit support, prepare summaries.
• Provide tax technical support (20%)
• Manage all US federal and state income tax audits;
• Oversee all sales and use tax audits;
• Support other areas in the company requiring tax guidance, including but not limited to sales and use, personal property, real estate, payroll, compensation, and benefits, 1099 reporting, etc.
• Research and document relevant tax laws regarding positions taken on tax returns;
• Identify risks, obstacles and issues, recommend solutions and work with management to resolve escalated issues;
• Support internal teams by providing subject matter expertise and interact with internal and external parties to answer questions, resolve issues, and provide tax related information.
• Forecasting and Planning (10%)
• Prepare periodic forecasts of taxable income, tax expense, and cash taxes payable;
• Assist with all tax planning, including working with third parties to design, execute, and measure tax planning strategies; and,
• Assist with all acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, restructuring, as required.
Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required;
• CPA license, master’s degree in Tax is preferred;
• 7+years Corporate Income tax experience, ideally a combination of public accounting and large publicly trade multinational/multistate corporate experience;
• Advanced understanding and experience with FAS 109/ASC 740; domestic and international issues;
• Knowledgeable in generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
• Advanced analytical skills;
• Must be highly motivated and communicate in a highly professional and articulate manner, both verbally and in writing;
• Ability to manage multiple complex assignments;
• Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
• Knowledge of public accounting, the U.S. tax systems, and tax compliance law.
The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Nevada Gaming license registration.
