POSITION SUMMARY:
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Director will be responsible for managing the environmental, health, and safety functions for nine domestic and international entities and a team of seven employees in manufacturing, construction, and professional settings. This position will provide guidance and assistance to all locations on various EHS aspects while simultaneously championing the delivery of multiple strategic projects and initiatives that impact our company’s success, and most importantly, our employees' safety and well-being.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead a team of EHS professionals and champion professional development, placement, and retention to support business operations.
Oversee the development and continuous improvement of environmental, occupational safety, employee health, industrial hygiene, and related policies that guide the company's diversified interests.
Provide direction and counsel to ensure the company is proactively working toward consistent execution of EHS compliance programs and incident reduction strategies.
Implement proactive safety and environmental management systems to reduce accidents, injuries, and property loss, and ensure environmental compliance.
Cultivate strategic business partnerships to facilitate the collaborative development and implementation of EHS processes and workflows across all of our locations.
Oversee the continuous improvement of our incident prevention system.
Advise senior leadership and serve as a subject matter expert in EHS matters related to asset acquisition and allocation, the impact of proposed regulations, and the ongoing implementation of EHS programs across all locations.
Maintain KPI tracking, internal, external, and regulatory reporting as needed; e.g., OSHA, ISN, etc.
Understands and act on internal and external customer needs.
Define and oversee EHS due diligence and integration activities that support strategic business growth.
Manage all interactions with EHS-related regulatory agencies.
Support the EHS team in planning and implementing safety policies and procedures with local, state, and federal EPA/ OSHA rules and regulations and international regulations.
Perform EHS Risk Assessments and implement control measures.
Evaluate Roeslein’s risk; maintain records of insurance policies and claims for workers comp, auto, and property claims.
Drive continuous improvement through safety analysis, audits, and investigations; Lean 5S and other continuous Improvement ideas.
Standardize written procedures, audits and inspections, and training programs across the organization.
Support the growth and development of a structured health, safety ownership, and accountability program within the company by standardizing and communicating clearly defined safety regulations.
Assist in maintaining and updating environmental compliance for hazardous waste, storm water, and air permits.
Assist in completing the job assessments for physical demands development.
Perform duties associated with Industrial Hygiene functions such noise assessments and air monitoring.
Update the compliance tasks list and ensure compliance with critical preventative maintenance calendar updates.
Assist in coordinating the daily activities of safety in support of the operations team.
Provide appropriate safety and health, incident prevention, and investigation training for managers and supervisors.
Assist management in the inspection of workplaces and project sites to assure safe and healthful conditions for workers.
Assist management and supervisors in investigating incidents and developing measures to prevent recurrences.
Oversee DOT Compliance Management program.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations.
Travel domestically and internationally, ranging from 25-35% per year.
Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.
FOCUS OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

50% in EHS Program/ Training Development and implementations and matrixes
5% Management of employees
15% Environmental and IH regulations
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas. Shift work may be required as production demands change.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will regularly be required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; and work in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner. Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs. on a regular basis is required. Considerable knowledge of Federal EPA/OSHA, State, and local regulations in both general industry and construction. International experience with safety regulations is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree or greater in an accredited Safety, Engineering, or a related field is required.
At least ten (10) years of experience within EHS field, with a minimum of four (4) years in a leadership capacity.
Board of Certified Safety Professional ( BCSP) Certification (or any) Preferred or have a desire or commitment to achieve.
Mergers and acquisition experience, along with integration experience is preferred.
Advanced experience in environmental, health, and safety policy, laws, and regulations in both general industry and construction, with the demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate complex regulations is required.
International and construction experience with safety regulations is a plus.
Six Sigma, ISO 14001 & 45001, OSHA VPP is preferred.
Must possess broad technical expertise, business and industry knowledge, and process and people leadership capabilities.
Proven ability to work effectively and enthusiastically on a team.
Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills
Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required.
Ability to respond to critical inquiries before and after normal business hours, as needed.
Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
