Client Information:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) focus on high impact prevention of HIV—by preventing new HIV infections, improving health outcomes for persons with HIV, and reducing HIV related disparities and health inequities.
DHP develops and maintains a variety of data and information systems to support its mission, including systems to collect, transmit, store, and analyze data for HIV/AIDS surveillance, epidemiology, and program monitoring and evaluation. We are looking for IT and public health partners including statisticians, researchers, behavioral scientists, computer scientists, public health advisors/analysts, budget analysts, and other program staff.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of large-scale database environments, ensuring high levels of performance and availability.
Design and implement robust database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Lead the development and enforcement of database policies, procedures, and standards, and ensure they comply with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Perform database tuning and performance monitoring, adjusting the database architecture as necessary to improve efficiency and reliability.
Manage and mentor a team of database administrators, providing guidance and direction for complex database management activities.
Collaborate with IT security teams to implement comprehensive database security measures, including access controls and vulnerability assessments.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in database administration, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role managing complex database systems.
Expertise in managing major relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of database replication, clustering, and partitioning.
Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis is a plus.
Preferred:
Experience in database administration within healthcare or public health sectors, familiar with HIPAA and other compliance requirements.
Proven track record of managing large-scale database migrations and upgrades.
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), or similar database-specific certifications.
Advanced certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).
