The Impact You'll Have:Alliant Engineering is looking to add a Director of Structures to its Transportation Engineering Group. This position presents a great opportunity for a self-motivated individual to work in a dynamic environment in our beautiful downtown Minneapolis office. The successful candidate we desire will play a pivotal role in acquiring and retaining clients, guiding our projects' priorities, and ensuring top-notch engineering solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
Responsibilities:
Provide proactive and strategic leadership for Alliant?s structural engineering department, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project deliverables are successfully achieved within the business sector
Assume responsibility for client development, strategic project implementation, and organizational planning and leadership
Establish and maintain strong client relationships with new and existing clients in the region
Maintain a strong focus on business development and marketing for both new and existing clients to drive performance of the business and strategically grow our market share
Prepare proposals and qualification statements for new contracts
Identify and establish teaming strategies and partnerships with other consulting engineering firms
Work collaboratively with other departments and engineers on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects
Prepare scopes and budgets for structural work, monitor project progress, and complete projects within the established budget
Perform reviews of engineering design plans, calculations, and special provisions to ensure that they comply with applicable state and/or federal regulations and sound engineering practice and standards
Meet with various Federal, public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of engineering/construction challenges and programs
Uphold our commitment to excellence by conducting rigorous Q/A-Q/C of projects, supervising structural designers, and coordinating with sub-consultants
Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development
Manage and provide performance, guidance, and leadership to assigned staff
Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices
Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical and other disciplines to deliver high-quality project deliverables
Identify and coordinate client-oriented professional organizations and events for staff participation
Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with MN PE License
15+ years of relevant experience in structural engineering business development, marketing, project management, and design
Comprehensive understanding of and experience in marketing and strategic business development within the Structural engineering sector
Established networks and contacts in the A/E/C sector, including DOTs, counties, and cities in and around Minnesota
Strong project management background, both on structural and multidisciplinary projects
Sound decision-making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice
Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results oriented, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels of the organization
Advanced proficiency with structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues
Strong working knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization
Strong working knowledge of structural analysis software such as CSiBridge, LARSA 4D, MIDAS, STAAD as well as Bentley OpenBridge CAD software
Strong knowledge of AASHTO and MnDOT LRFD bridge design policies and procedures
Excellent analytical and problem solving capabilities, organization and multitasking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail with outstanding analytical, multitasking, and judgement capabilities
Preferred Qualifications:
A member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organizations
Bridge ratings experience in AASHTOWare BrR
MnDOT Bridge Inspection Team Leader certification
Post-tensioned concrete design and detailing experience
