JOB TITLE: Specialized Wireless Engineer IV - Wi-Fi Development

JOB SUMMARYThe Wi-Fi Development Network Engineer is responsible for the development and engineering activities supporting Wireless technologies. This candidate plays a key role in evaluating new technologies and services prior to the integration and deployment into Charter's network. Technologies you will be supporting include, Wi-Fi Routers, Gateways, Access Points, Service Provider Wi-Fi, Range Extenders and many other new technologies developed by key standards and collaboration committees. You will collaborate with Network Architects and Product Development on business and technology requirements and assess vendor solutions to address the requirements. You will work with Network Architects to create detailed test plans and certification curriculums, proof of concept trials, and methodologies for analysis of performance criteria. You will also partner with technical operations staff on system design and configuration and training needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITIONActively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experienceParticipates in wireless customer premise equipment (CPE) architecture design and engineering.

Evaluates new products, performs wireless problem resolution.

Develops experimental software and proof of concept demos on new hardware platforms

Integrates and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations

Assists in the development and documentation of technical standards

Designs and establishes protocol compatibility standards, develops and implements wirelessenhancements and makes recommendations for improvement

Provides escalated tier support across organizations and to third party vendors

Works on projects/ systems/issues of medium to high complexity surrounding wireless network configuration and optimization

Works on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project team lead

Coaches less experienced staff

Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable

Know, understand and follow company policy

Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSSkills / Abilities and Knowledge

Must possess excellent industry knowledge and theoretical understanding of IEEE 802.11 specifications (a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, SISO, MIMO, MCS index).

Should have excellent knowledge in In-Home Router industry standards and design/ implementation (IPv4 / IPv6, TR-069, TR-0369, IPSEC, QoS, 802.11).

Experience writing and developing requirements, detailed test cases and test plans

Experience using protocol communications test equipment and tools (protocol analyzers, wifi analyzers and packet sniffers, CDMA / LTE system simulators).

Experience with handset manufacturers, network equipment vendors, and/or chipset vendors a plus.

Hands-on experience with OpenWRT based open-source system development and one or more Wi-Fi chipset platforms and SDKs is a plus.

Experience user space development for customer premise equipment (CPE) in one or more of following areas is a plus: HostAPD, Wi-Fi device drivers, Tunnels, Firewall, Iptables, DNS, DHCP, Flow Classification, Quality of Service

Proficiency with software development tools, build systems, cross compilers is a plus.

Understanding and/or experience working with the following is a plus: - DLNA, UPnP, oneM2M architecture - RRC, NAS, SIP, IMS, OSGI, and DHCP.

Knowledge of common mobile handset operating systems (Windows Mobile, Android and other Java-Linux platforms) and knowledge of UICC/SIM chipsets & modules relating to wireless devices is a plus.

Knowledge of RF or Network System Performance is a plus.

Experience in RF design, HFC Design, DOCSIS specifications 3.0/3.1 a plus.

Experience developing automation utilizing Python programming languages is a plus.

Knowledge of various Network adjuncts and services i.e. AAA, Diameter, EAP, PDSN, LTE Data, VoLTE, GRE, Soft GRE, L2TP, CAPWEP.

Extensive hands-on networking experience (802.11 AP's, Cable Gateways, Routers, Switches, etc.)

Experience with wireless test equipment, such as Ixia, Spirent, Fluke Networks, IBB, Spectrum Analyzers, Site Survey Planning tools, and Traffic Generators.

Must possess expert skills and experience with desktop operating systems and applications (Windows, MAC, Unix/Linux).

Experienced technical writing skills sufficient to produce white papers, test cases, test plans, design documents, and technical diagrams
