Required Qualifications: Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications.Must possess a valid CDL license Class B with Passenger and Air Brakes and be able to be 19A certified as required by New York State DMV.Must have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

Appointment will be contingent upon proof of identity and eligibility for employment and successful completion of pre-employment testing for controlled substance use as mandated by the Federal Highway Administration Omnibus Transportation Act of 1991.Please note that employment cannot commence until notification for successful completion of this pre-employment testing is received.Must comply with the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (drug and alcohol testing).

Brief Description of Duties: The Bus Driver will be responsible for the following:Drive a full-size passenger bus on and off SUNY property in order to transport passengers and materials as required.Check horn, directional lights, head, tail, parking and emergency lights for proper operation.Check proper operationof braking system.Check tires for visible damage.Pre-trip inspection of vehicle and completion of required forms.Monitor gauges and as necessary refuels the tank on the vehicle.Supervise the loading and unloading of passengers and personal property onto the bus.Post manifests, inventories, and other records of goods and passengers transported.This would include the compiling ofcount sheets from all drivers when assigned.Transport passengers with disabilities.Operate radio and/or cellular telephones as needed to communicate with dispatcher.Keep written records of trips, mileage, stopovers, fuel bridges, tolls and records of passenger counts.Report anymalfunction and needed repairs to supervisor or maintenance staff.This would include the compiling of the daily bus logs from all drivers on a daily basis.Drive campus routes and do charters for departments and graduation work for Stony Brook University.Wash, sweep, clean and fuel buses, as well as vans and other state vehicles.In an emergency situation, the driver may be required to perform some minor repairs such as replace a bulb, put air into tires,replace windshield wiper blades, etc...May map routes, itineraries, and points of call for other drivers as well as yourself.Transport vehicles to and from vendors for repairs.Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:

These are temporary full time positions 40 hours per week, and part time positions 20 hours per week, shift and pass days varied with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2024 and anticipated end date of May 21, 2025.Night and weekend work may be required. FLSA Nonexempt positions, eligible for overtime provisions of the FLSA. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.
