Substitute School Bus Driver
Job Summary
To operate a safe and efficient school bus to transport students to and from school and to and from school related activities.
Reports to:
Director of Transportation
QualificationsMust have a high school diploma or GED.Must be 21 years of age.Must possess a valid class B commercial driver's license with the proper endorsements and have received required training as a New Mexico State school bus driver or a willingness to obtain this training and certification.Must pass a Department of Transportation physical examination by a licensed physician.Must pass a substance abuse test as prescribed by local school board policy and state statutes.Must have current Red Cross First-Aid certification or equivalent and CPR certification or a willingness to obtain this training and certification.Must have a satisfactory driving record and criminal background that reflects a professional driver and meets all district, state, and federal requirements.Must complete a finger-print background checkEssential Duties and Responsibilities
(Duties are not limited to, but shall include the following)
Operate a school bus in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations.Follow local, state, and federal law, adhere to the State Department of Education Regulations and follow Aztec School Board Policy.Maintain all requirements outlined in the State Department of Education Regulation 6.41.4.Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the school bus and special equipment.Keep an updated route sheet and map as well as student registration forms and current seating assignment as required by state and local districts.Able to operate lift equipment and securing devices on special needs equipment.Instruct students on emergency evacuation drill twice a year as required by district, state, and federal regulations.Able to meet emergency situations in accordance with operating procedures.Maintain orderly conduct of passengers.Communicate effectively and professionally with students, employers, school staff, parents, and the public.Complete required reports in a timely and professional manner.Successfully complete all training programs and all continuing education requirements in a timely and professional manner.Provide maximum safety for passengers while in the bus and during loading and unloading.Handle additional duties as assigned to complete contract hours.Ability to supervise an EA if assigned to bus.Qualification Requirements

Evaluation
Performance of duty will be evaluated at least annually in accordance with Aztec School Board Policy.
Physical Rating Level
This position will require the employee to function at a "Medium" physical capacity as defined by Worker's Compensation Statutes. "Medium" physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
