General DutiesDrive a district vehicle over assigned routes in accordance with an established time schedule, picking up and discharging studentsTransport students safely to and from school and other school sponsored eventsMay transport children with special needsAdhere to State laws, District policies, and safety procedures regarding student discipline and public contact with parents, school personnel and community membersFollow and implement student(s) behavior plans, maintaining student disciplineSweep and clean the interior and exterior of the District vehicle/Prepare daily and weekly reports on mileage, number of students transported and condition of District vehicleReport problems or equipment malfunctionsPerform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Credential and/or License: Valid Class A or Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator's License; must have a clear driving record to be insured and continue to be insurable by the District's liability insurance carrier.Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Program: Must clear mandated pre-employment drug and alcohol screening; will be part of pool for randomly selected drug and alcohol screening.Education: Education equivalent to graduation from the 12th grade.Experience: Minimum one year experience driving with a Class C license and experience with driving a 10 passenger vehicle. Experience working with special need students preferred.Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of safe driving practices and proceduresAbility to maintain appropriate student behaviorDemonstrate the proper methods of vehicle safety inspections and maintenanceHandle situations with tact, diplomacy and safety at all timesUnderstand and carry out oral and written directionsEstablish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the routine course of dutiesRespond and report special circumstances to the appropriate personnelAdheres to requirements of being a Mandated Reporter

EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's policies and procedures and existing contract with association.

Physical DemandsWhile performing the essential functions and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms and speak and hear effectively. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
