Job Summary

Specific Statement of Duties1. Bus drivers shall work under the immediate supervision of theSuperintendent/Principal. They shall obey all state and District laws andregulations related to pupil transportation. They are required to hold valid busdrivers' certificates and meet all other legal requirements.2. Each bus shall be inspected by the driver daily, before transporting pupils toascertain that it is in safe condition, equipped properly and in good working order(according to Ed. Code 14241). A weekly written report is to be submitted to theSuperintendent/Principal indicating the condition of the bus and recommending anyrepairs deemed necessary.3. Drivers shall follow State regulations and District policy as to discipline on the bus,and shall promptly report to the Superintendent/Principal any major infraction ofrules. Bus drivers shall also comply with the requirements of Title 5, section14200-14278 which are incorporated into these rules.4. A bus driver shall not transport pupils in a school bus at any time unless, in theiropinion, the bus is in a safe operating condition. In addition to driving theirassigned routes at the assigned times, they shall clean their buses and do similarrelated work as directed. A bus driver shall not change his assigned route orassigned stops thereon, except as directed by the Superintendent/Principal.5. Pick up and discharge students at established bus stops; escort children acrossstreets or roadways, stopping traffic as necessary; report incidents or conditionsaffecting the safety of students as appropriate.6. Maintain bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicleinspections including cleaning windows, mirrors and bus interior and exterior;check and maintain fuel, oil and water levels; check brakes, brake lights, wheelchair lifts and doors; report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriatepersonnel.7. Requirements / Qualifications

Education / Certification:Basic Qualifications:1. High School Diploma or equivalent2. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California driver's license Class A or B3. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Special Drivers Certificate*4. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Medical Examiners Certificate5. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid American Red Cross First Aid Certificate6. Good driving record with no DUI conviction in the past 10 years7. Ability to obtain and meet all requirements on Application Checklist
