Native Books specializes in the sales and distribution of books, films, music and educational materials focused primarily on Nā Mea Hawai'i, things having to do with Hawai'i. Nā Mea Hawai‘i specializes in locally and Hawaiian made gifts, clothing, food, art and material culture.JOB DESCRIPTION: Management/OperationsThe operations manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of Native Books/Nā Mea Hawai‘i’s retail business and community support efforts in accordance with compliance policies and the overall mission and vision for the store. Operations Manager must focus on the maintenance and improvement of the commercial performance of the business by minimizing expenses, maximizing income, and maintaining productivity all while staying true to the core values and mission of this Hawaiian-owned, community-minded business.Responsibilities include:managing business office operationssupervising sales staff and customer service interactionsmaintaining the appearance and effectiveness of the retail spaceanalysis of business progress and visioning for business growthupholding a Hawaiian sense of place and spirit of sharing with communityMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian Language or a related field• OR in lieu of a degree, three or more years of relevant experience• Experience and demonstrated ability to successfully and lead and work as part of a team• Demonstrated ability to establish & maintain effective relationships with organizations, groups, and individuals.• Excellent oral and written communication skills.• Capacity to trouble-shoot and problem-solve.• Highly computer literate; comfortable and easily trainable with specialized software and technology• Propensity to multi-task, manage concurrent projects and deadlines, work under pressure, take initiative, exercise sound judgment, and be simultaneously detail-oriented and systems-oriented• Hawai‘i State Driver’s License and ability to travel to and from other store locations and vendor sites• Able to lift and move boxes up to forty pounds• Available to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and on-call as neededDESIRED SKILLS/STANDARDS:• At least 1 year of professional experience with responsibilities for managing business operations and employee performance• Knowledge of, and interest in, books about Hawai‘i and the Pacific• Knowledge of, and interest in, material culture and history of Hawai‘i• Proficient in Hawaiian language or cultural practitionerPOSITION INFORMATION:Location: Native Books/Nā Mea Hawai‘i, Ward WarehouseCompensation: Commensurate with experienceApplicants should send a resume and cover letter to:Native Books, Attention Amanda Rang Sawa,1050 Ala Moana Blvd., Suite 1000, Honolulu, HI 96814,Or email amanda@nativebookshawaii.com.Or fax: 596-7742Call Amanda Rang Sawa at 783-2665 for more information.
