JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERINGDEPARTMENT:

ENGINEERING

REPORTS TO:

DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

OVERVIEW/BASIC FUNCTION:

The Assistant Director of Engineering will be responsible to oversee the daily overall operation of Engineering include the proper operation, maintenance and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration and mechanical equipment while maintaining quality standards and maximizing profitability. Develop, coordinate, and monitor a rooms maintenance program to ensure the safety and comfort of all staff and guests. Supervise, train and manage all Engineering staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards.

Ensure that standards are maintained at a superior level on a daily basis.

Act as the DOE in the absence of and work closely with relevant Executive Team members in supporting and achieving the hotel’s goals and objectives.

Oversee the entire hotel’s maintenance and preventative maintenance program.

Maintain division standards and control objectives.

Establish and implement annual objectives for the Engineering department.

Provide ongoing training and development of the team; ensuring skills sets are up to date.

Ensure daily work orders are responded to in a timely manner – with proper follow-up and follow through.

Support and uphold hotel philosophy concerning hiring, employee relations, supervision, and disciplinary action.

Supervise, direct, coordinate, and influence staff to maintain service standards of the hotel.

Follow up with guest complaints and ensure they are solved on the same day.

Ensure occupational health and safety standards are maintained throughout the hotel and comply with local, state, and Federal laws.

Monitor the engineering inventory, monitor expenses, and handle department purchasing orders.

All other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

Minimum five to ten years’ experience in a similar capacity for a luxury or ultra-luxury property.

Education:

College or University degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Hospitality Management or equivalent work experience.

General Skills:

Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and follow-up; be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment; follow directions thoroughly; understand a guest’s service needs; work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.

Technical Skills:

Thorough working knowledge of a variety of heating and cooling systems, preventative maintenance programs, budgeting, planning, designing operating standards and procedures, quality and quantity control standards, financial statements, resourcefulness, creativity, flexibility, training, motivation, evaluation, mentorship, leadership, plumbing codes, electrical codes, fire codes, mechanical codes, water treatment programs, blueprints, plumbing and wiring schematics, tools, equipment operation, equipment repair, budget preparation, cost controls, enforcing standards, policies, procedures, prioritization, delegation, troubleshooting, emergency response, security, confidentiality, positive interaction, problem-solving.

Language:

Required to speak, read and write English, with fluency in other languages preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 50 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers.

Visa Requirements:

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
