Job Description
Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - School of Nursing - Nursing Course Assistant. The Nursing Course Assistants (CA) supports student success within the School of Nursing. Nursing CAs provide support in both theory and skills areas through supplemental instruction (SI) sessions, providing one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, nursing skills practice, coaching, and administrative support. The position may require weekday, weekend, and evening hours as needed.

Core Responsibilities:
Nursing Course Assistants are trained to provide SI support, skills support, tutoring and general peer support. Nursing CAs help students develop a positive self-concept; the skills to identify and address the academic challenges of the students by using the student's own experience, training, and skills in tutoring and support strategies; the capability to establish immediate and continuing rapport with the student; the facility to continually self-evaluate and improve one's own expertise by using a variety of methods; and the ability to evaluate and aid in the continuing development of the Nursing Course Assistant program.Attend all lectures of the assigned classes; model successful learning behaviors.Plan, with faculty support, and run weekly SI sessions.Provide one-on-one and group tutoring.Help coach students toward success.Provide nursing skills support.Document all interactions with students.Notify students of upcoming workshops and events.Meet regularly with the NSSC staff and provide ideas for improvement.Meet regularly with collaborating instructor.Provide administrative support as needed.Minimum Qualifications:
Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.4 or higher.Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).One or more faculty member references (include the name of one or more faculty members in your cover letter to be contacted as reference(s)).Available for 8-10 hours weekly during the semester, and for the maximum weekly student employment (19.5 hours per week) during training and special event dates.Attends all required trainings every semester that will occur during the two-week period prior to the start of the new semester.Attends all required meetings or professional training during the week or weekends and school breaks.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong work ethic, initiative, ability to work independently.Ability to work in groups.Values collaboration.Outstanding customer service skills.Maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme diligence with confidential information and materials.Enjoys talking about the course subject.Ability to work with faculty, staff and students.Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude.Please note:

Anticipated number of hours per week is around 8-10 hours, but the actual number of hours may vary up to as many as 19.5 hours during training and special event weeks. Maximum number of hours per week is 19.5 hours (including any other campus jobs).
Hourly Rate:
$16.00 per hour.
