Seeking an experienced attorney with expertise in commercial and consumer bankruptcy to join a top-notch team of bankruptcy experts.

As a Commercial and Consumer Bankruptcy Attorney - Vice President, Assistant General Counsel within our bankruptcy legal team, you will provide expert advice and guidance on commercial and consumer bankruptcy matters, review and approve legal documents, and partner with key internal stakeholders to implement legal strategies. You will be responsible for managing, overseeing, and advising on bankruptcy cases, including critical vendor bankruptcies, and will be expected to form and develop effective legal strategies to mitigate legal, operational, and financial risks. As part of your responsibilities, you will provide legal support to Consumer and Community Banking (CCB) bankruptcy and recovery operations, including advising on bankruptcy legal issues, acting as a trusted advisor to the business in developing and enhancing bankruptcy recovery activities and controls, and ensuring compliance with bankruptcy legal requirements.

Job Responsibilities

Partnering with the business and corporate function groups (e.g., Compliance, Risk, Controls and Audit) to provide in-depth analyses of changes in law and assisting in the evaluations of the possible effects of the changes to business processes or proceduresAssisting in the review and revision of business policies and procedures to ensure compliance with bankruptcy and other legal requirements, regulatory guidance and internal policiesPartnering with the business and technology teams to create or enhance applications/systems that support the servicing/handling of accounts subject to bankruptcyProviding support to strategic initiatives and special projectsCollaborating with internal and external stakeholder groups on changing legal requirementsSupporting CCB Litigation in the handling of contested bankruptcy mattersAssisting with preparation for council meetings, working groups and regular meetings, and executing on meeting take-awaysConducting comprehensive and in-depth research on bankruptcy laws, regulations, and precedents to develop effective legal strategies.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

At least 5 years of chapter 11 bankruptcy experience, including complex workouts and restructurings, the representation of debtors, secured creditors, official committees, and unsecured creditors in complex bankruptcy cases.Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law schoolAttorneys must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.Partner with Business, Risk, Controls, and Compliance colleagues regarding operational and regulatory risk and control issues and the applicability of bankruptcy lawStrong knowledge and understanding of complex bankruptcy legal framework, including the United States Bankruptcy Code and Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure (as well as general understanding of nuances associated with local requirements and preferences)Knowledge and understanding of bankruptcy legal issues and regulatory requirements impacting creditors, including issues relating to compliance with the automatic stay and discharge injunction and filing proofs of claim and other documents in bankruptcy casesAbility to prioritize and interact effectively with senior management

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

Regulatory or compliance experienceExperience working with bank regulators, bankruptcy trustees and/or the Office of the United States Trustee
