OverviewJob Summary:The Sr. Storage Engineer at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center manages and supports a large storage environment, which includes over 6 petabytes of data across various platforms (EMC, NetApp, Cisco, Brocade). This role requires hands-on expertise, excellent communication, and leadership skills. Responsibilities include operational support, troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrades, and expansion of the storage and backup environments.Education/Experience:BS in Information Systems or related field, and 5-7 years of relevant experience.Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.Reports To:
Director, Servers & StorageLicensure, Certification, and/or Registration:EMC certifications preferred.Essential Functions:Maintain the Enterprise Storage SAN, NAS, Storage Fabric Networks, and Backup infrastructures.Provide expertise and consulting services to internal clients.Ensure compliance with storage practices for change, capacity, performance, and threshold management.Design and implement storage Disaster Recovery to meet application RPO and RTO.Manage storage demand and capacity, including trend analysis and purchase recommendations.Design and implement high availability storage solutions.Adhere to organizational standards and disaster recovery requirements for system hardware and software.Coordinate projects, including planning, scheduling, communication, and status reporting.Develop and review technical documentation.Configure, maintain, and monitor storage infrastructure.Perform system diagnostics, root cause analysis, and implement corrective measures.Identify issues, draw conclusions, and develop appropriate solutions.Seek improvement, automation, and efficiency opportunities.Mentor and support less experienced team members.Skills & Qualifications:Expertise in storage and backup architecture and methodologies.Experience managing large SAN and NAS environments.Proficiency with EMC storage systems, Cisco MDS, Brocade fabric management, and related technologies.Ability to troubleshoot and optimize storage and backup systems.Experience with Avamar, Data Domain, and automation frameworks.Knowledge of storage networking fundamentals, including SCSI, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and virtualization.Independent, organized, self-motivated, and responsible.Strong technical aptitude and critical thinking skills.Understanding of project management processes.Experience in managing EMC VPlex, VMax, Isilon, Recoverpoint in a VBlock Environment is preferred.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.Excellent customer service and communication skills.Ability to deliver on commitments and work non-standard hours if necessary.Work Environment:Fast-paced with occasional long hours.Possible exposure to patient elements and varying situations.Handles emergencies and interruptions.Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple priorities.Physical Requirements:Activity
