Originally designed as a military base to protect Puget Sound, Fort Worden has evolved into an iconic and cherished destination with Fort Worden Hospitality operating accommodations, venues, restaurants and catering services all set against the scenic backdrop of the Pacific Northwest.Job OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented On-Call Banquet Captain to lead our banquet team during events such as weddings, corporate gatherings, and social celebrations. The Banquet Captain will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of banquet service, ensuring that events run smoothly and guests receive the highest level of service. This leadership role requires excellent communication skills, a passion for event management, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.This position is a sub-part time, regular position with 20-40 hours of work expected per week during high season (May 1 - Sept 30), and 0-20 hours per week in the off season. Perfect for folks with school year jobs looking to make extra money in the summer or those who just prefer more flexibility in the winter for art or travel. If you are passionate about food, eager to lead a dynamic team, and excited to contribute to the legacy of Fort Worden, we would love to hear from you.RequirementsKey Responsibilities:Lead and manage the banquet team during events, ensuring all staff members are fully briefed and understand their responsibilities.Coordinate with event planners, chefs, and the service team to execute events according to the client’s specifications.Oversee the setup, execution, and breakdown of events, ensuring that all aspects meet Fort Worden Hospitality’s standards.Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during events in a professional and efficient manner.Ensure that all banquet facilities are maintained, clean, and properly set up before and after each event.Train and mentor new staff members, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and ensure consistent service quality.Maintain inventory control for all banquet equipment and supplies.Liaise with the kitchen staff to ensure timely service of meals and adherence to dietary restrictions.Provide exceptional customer service, responding to guest requests and ensuring a memorable event experience.Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor, adapting to operational needs.Qualifications:Proven experience in a banquet captain or similar leadership role within the hospitality or event industry.Strong understanding of banquet service procedures and best practices.Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on training and development.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with guests, staff, and management.Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, with a problem-solving mindset.Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Knowledge of food safety and handling regulations is preferred.Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to move and lift heavy objects when necessary.
