Academic Counselor II for the College of Agriculture, guiding current and prospective students to ease their transition to college and throughout their tenure at LSU, ultimately supporting their retention and graduation. The Academic Counselor II is a primary resource for the students, responsible for providing timely and accurate information while maintaining a supportive and welcoming environment.Job Responsibilities:(60%)

Primary academic counselor responsible for administering educational advising programming and initiatives to positively affect the student experience, including, but not limited to:Utilizes university resources and databases to provide educational guidance to students by interpreting and enforcing degree requirements and university/college policies and procedures and determining appropriate education solutions consistent with their academic needs and goals.Provides document assistance and tracks the advancement of students as they accomplish their academic goals.Provides case management to students not meeting educational requirements and offers guidance toward other possible academic programs.Refers students to appropriate campus departments and agencies based on their individual needs and situation.Serves as crisis management point of contact for Dean’s Office and faculty advisors, maintaining current affiliations and training with SafeSpace, Lighthouse, and LSU SHC/MHC.Serves a student population of ~1500 College of Agriculture students.(30%)

Responsible for ongoing administrative responsibilities associated with the Academic Counseling role, including, but not limited to:Analyzes retention data and collaborates with Manager of Student Services and Assistant Dean to determine on-going adjustments to advising programming and student outreach.Manages Student Services email account.Maintains student records collection in accordance with SACSCOC accreditation requirements.Assesses university reports and processes or disseminates as appropriate.Assists with Senior Checkout.Organizes targeted programming for Agriculture Residential College (ARC) student population, responsible for all ARC course scheduling.Initiates CATS tracking procedures and delegates necessary action to faculty advisors and/or Coordinator of Student Services.Reviews and verifies student-athlete course schedules; Liaison to Cox Communications Center for Student Athletes.Point of contact & liaison to LSU senior colleges and student support resources on campus, including, but not limited to Student Health Center, Center for Academic Success, Student Advocacy & Accountability, Disability Services, and Veterans’ Affairs.Develops presentations and coordinates advising efforts at various LSU Orientation events.(10%)

Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.QUALIFICATIONS:Required:Bachelor’s Degree.3 years Relevant professional work experience with student interaction and work in an educational environment.Demonstrated ability to coordinate and direct academic programs; demonstrated human relations and communication skills; ability to work with a diverse student population.Special Qualifications:University employees whose principal responsibilities of employment include operating a vehicle, performing maintenance on a vehicle, or supervising any public employee who operates or maintains a vehicle and positions with an expectation to travel will require an MVR and are subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04. A valid driver's license is needed.As with all LSU employees, academic counselors have an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the Counselor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency.Salary and Benefits:Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
