Academic Counselor 1Provide academic advising and career guidance to College of Engineering students, to students being admitted to the College from other colleges and universities, to international students, prospective students, or re-entry students. Advise students on various academic procedures and regulations including, but not limited to, the following: scholastic regulations, curriculum requirements, withdrawal regulations, resignations, part-time enrollment, CATS requirements, academically at-risk students, etc.70% General counseling and advising which provides academic and career guidance to College of Engineering students, students being admitted to the College from other colleges and universities, international students, prospective students, online, and re-entry students.25% Activities in the College of Engineering which may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1) assisting with commencement activities; 2) assisting with recruitment activities; 3) responding to various inquiries regarding student matters; 4) keeping abreast of professional development through literature, seminars, and organizations; 5) assisting in the process of verifying accuracy of automated transcripts and degree audits, including approval and entering course substitutions/course evaluations; 6) facilitating the submission of student appeals as needed.5% Other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in counseling, related social science field, or higher education field.Academic Counselor 2Provide academic advising and career guidance to College of Engineering students, to students being admitted to the College from other colleges and universities, to international students, prospective students, or re-entry students. Advise students on various academic procedures and regulations including, but not limited to, the following: scholastic regulations, curriculum requirements, withdrawal regulations, resignations, part-time enrollment, CATS requirements, academically at-risk students, etc. Manage additional administrative projects and assist with training of junior counselors.55% General counseling and advising which provides academic and career guidance to College of Engineering students, students being admitted to the College from other colleges and universities, international students, prospective students, online, and re-entry students.10% Activities in the College of Engineering which may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1) assisting with commencement activities; 2) assisting with recruitment activities; 3) responding to various inquiries regarding student matters; 4) keeping abreast of professional development through literature, seminars, and organizations; 5) assisting in the process of verifying accuracy of automated transcripts and degree audits, including approval and entering course substitutions/course evaluations.10% Assist with orientation programs as needed for the College of Engineering.10% Monitor College of Engineering email account, in conjunction with Coordinator.5% Maintain and provide annual or bi-annual updates to various information pieces utilized for the education of students, training of advising staff, and support of other units.5% Support the Assistant Dean and senior counselors with training and onboarding of junior counselors.5% Other duties as directed by the Assistant and Associate Deans and Lead Counselor.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree and one year of related experience.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in counseling, related social science field, or higher education field and specific experience with student populations in an educational setting.Both LevelsAs with all LSU employees, academic counselors have an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services.
