The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Minimum Qualifications
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands on experience as an LVT working within an Oncology unit of a small animal hospital.
Position Summary
Will be part of a team training and guiding fourth year veterinary students, interns and residents as well as veterinary technician students on their path towards a professional career in veterinary medicine. As a member of the service you will be performing quality medicine at its highest levels and standards while running and maintaining advanced equipment associated with these procedures. Technicians in these positions are essential in the organization of the service and patient care assisting with examinations, specimen collection, diagnostic procedures, treatments, anesthesia and surgeries.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Stressful situations.- Phlebotomy on small or large animals.- Manually calculating basic formulas for weight conversions, medication dose conversions.- Knowledge of large and small animal anatomy.
Physical Demands
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.- Sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.-Use of manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.- Wearing all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.- Working for long periods of time with arms extended.

Patient care management and treatments. Collection of blood, urine by expression, cystocentesis or catheterization. Collection and preparation of tissue, cellular, or microbiological samples by skin scraping, impressions. Routine laboratory test procedures. Radiology including settings, positioning, processing, and safety. Intravenous and arterial catheterization. Administration and application of treatments, drugs, fluids, medications and immunological agents by oral, parenteral and injectable routes.
Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities
Placement of intra-nasal and intra-gastric tubes. Dental procedures, euthanasia, surgical assistance, resuscitative procedures. Application of splints and slings. Application of appropriate wound dressings and external supportive care in severe wound and burn cases.
Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities
Entering proper charges for cases, as well as submitting and checking lab work and imaging results through the Hospital computer system. Professionally communicate with doctors and students concerning the affected work flow, time limitations and patient status.

Medical record keeping. Oversee patient management by Veterinary Assistants. Reading and understanding patient records, and having knowledge of medical condition processes.
