BUS DRIVER

Responsibility:

Under the general supervision of the Transportation Coordinator, operates a school bus over designated routes to transport school children, and to do other work as required.

Essential Functions:

1. Ability to drive a school bus daily, or as assigned, over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging children.

2. Escorts children across streets following Vehicle Code and 13 CCR regulations, stopping traffic as necessary.

3. Maintains good order among the students on the bus, following District policies regarding the discipline of children.

4. Conducts pre-trip vehicle inspections, which include, but are not limited to, tires, emergency exits, lights, turn signals, gauges and brakes.

5. Possesses ability to read, understand and follow oral and written directions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Transports children and teachers on field trips to various locations, making departure and arrival times as scheduled.

2. Washes bus, cleans bus windows, sweeps interior of bus, fuels bus and checks engine oil level.

Qualifications:

1. Knowledge of safe driving practices and provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the California Code of Regulations Title 13 applicable to the operations of vehicles in the transportation of school children.

2. Ability to drive a school bus (including a school bus with a standard 5-speed manual transmission) and other automotive equipment safely and efficiently.

3. Ability to supervise pupils being transported.

4. Possession of, or the ability to acquire, a California Class II driver's license and a bus driver's certificate issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

5. Ability to pass a physical examination every two years.

6. Have and maintain a good driving record.

7. Be at least 21 years of age.

Physical Requirements:

1. Position requires moderate physical exertion associated with ability to lift, carry, push, pull or climb.

2. Position requires physical capability for sustained physical work; requires strength and endurance associated with moderate physical effort.

3. Lifting 50 lbs. maximum or carrying any object weighing up to 25 lbs.

4. Position requires moderate physical effort while performing continuous moderate lifting.

Requirements / Qualifications
