About Us
6 South is a 16 bed comprehensive medical oncology unit that works in conjunction with the Brown Cancer Center to utilize chemotherapy, innovative radiation techniques, Immunotherapy, and cutting edge research trials. This private bed unit utilizes adjunct holistic therapies to treat the whole person with the goal of providing the highest quality patient care and outcomes.
UofL Hospital, a 404-bed academic teaching and research hospital, is at the heart of the Louisville Metro area in downtown Louisville. UofL Hospital offers a second-to-none cancer center, world-renowned trauma team and a uniquely streamlined, nationally accredited stroke center—the latest innovations in a history of world-class care. UofL Hospital is the only adult Level I Trauma Center in the region, which includes the only dedicated burn center in Kentucky.

ResponsibilitiesJob Summary
The charge nurse assists the clinical manager and nursing director with the management of the unit including participating in employee evaluations, staffing and scheduling, patient and preceptor assignments, oversight of resource utilization, and initiating and overseeing quality improvement activities. The charge nurse acts as a resource and provides information/education to unit staff.
The charge nurse is involved in service recovery, promoting customer service to both internal and external customers.
The charge nurse is a role model of the professional nurse as exemplified by their presence on the unit, participation in nursing department initiatives, and organizational committee meetings.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications
Active Kentucky registered nurse license or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky
Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
All new-hire Associate degree registered nurses (new graduate and experienced) are required to start an approved BSN program within one (1) year of hire and complete an approved BSN program within three (3) years of hire
One (1) year of nursing experience in specialty area
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
Two (2) years of nursing experience in specialty area
Note:
additional specialized certifications may be required, or preferred, based on unit
