CalWORKs Counselors collaborate with Social Services Agency to support students during their educational journey.Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development, or the equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment, and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.AND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:Have completed a minimum of nine (9) semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.Have completed six (6) semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.ANDTwo years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.ORPossess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.Commitment to diversity. Knowledge of CalWORKs/TANF program policies.One year of experience in a community college CalWORKs program.Demonstrated experience conducting in-reach, outreach, and recruitment of diverse student populations in an educational setting.Demonstrated knowledge and competency of community college counseling with specific knowledge in areas such as transfer and articulation, probation, career and technical education, STEM, and other unique areas of counseling.Demonstrated success in assisting students from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups, nontraditional students, former/current foster youth, system impacted students, speakers of other languages, and students with disabilities.Experience working with students providing academic, career, and personal counseling through various modes of delivery: individual and/or group settings.Bilingual in Spanish, Farsi, or Arabic.Working Conditions
