William Blair is looking for a motivated Payroll Specialist to join its Payroll team responsible for processing multi-jurisdiction payrolls for US employees utilizing Workday Payroll. Working collaboratively with other internal teams, this important role includes payroll processing according to a pre-determined delivery schedule. A payroll checklist includes pre and post payroll processing activities that demand a high level of engagement, discretion, and confidentiality in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. This team is also responsible for reconciling all payroll related general ledger accounts requiring basic accounting skills.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Engage with other team members to complete payroll and actively review, process and reconcile payroll data, and perform the necessary steps for funding, general ledger activities and proper record keeping ensuring payroll accuracy
Effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external clients (team members, employees, managers, auditors, federal, local and state tax agencies) for the purpose of ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll
Assist with processing wage garnishments, levies and child support deductions for employees
Work with HR and Payroll Manager to understand proper handling of employee benefits in the payroll
Partner with Commissions compensation team to review and process sales commission payments
Assist with US payroll audit requests & ad-hoc reporting
Respond timely to employees' inquiries regarding payroll via telephone or email
Qualifications:
Three years of payroll experience preferably with exempt/non-exempt and multi-jurisdiction landscape
Experience with Workday payroll highly desired
Accounting basics and intermediate Excel skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to work effectively and problem solve in a team environment
Ability to respond to payroll inquiries with empathy & professionalism
Ability to explain payroll statements and W2 details to clients in a professional manner
Very high attention to detail
Ability to meet tight deadlines, and prioritize competing workloads
Ability to create documentation and prepare notes as required
