24500538640716Job Description:The Assistant Director for Graduate Student Support works to enhance the experiences of a diverse graduate student population at the College of Engineering. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs, this position provides support and serves as an information resource for graduate students, departments, faculty, and staff. The Assistant Director collaborates with various offices at the University and offers support on personal, medical, and academic issues. This role involves liaising with faculty and staff to determine circumstances warranting extensions or temporary accommodations to support retention and graduation.Student Support and AdvisingCounsels and supports a diverse student population on personal, medical, and academic issues.Liaisons with faculty to determine extenuating circumstances warranting extensions or temporary accommodations.Uses professional judgment to determine appropriate follow-up with students and faculty.Serves as the primary resource for departments and program managers to solve complex issues.Works directly with Late Entry Accelerated Program (LEAP) students from onboarding through community building.Directs the LEAP ambassador program.Outreaches to students on academic probation or not making adequate academic progress.Develops ongoing methods to communicate with students efficiently.Problem SolvingConducts assessments to gather data for future decision-making.Identifies and designs programming across degrees and departments to meet diverse student needs.Evaluates and supports students' academic performance each semester.Provides guidance on university and College policies and procedures.Development of Programs and EventsIdentifies and designs new diverse programming across degrees and departments.Manages new student orientation, admitted student open houses, and commencement.Identifies and manages educational, social, and cultural activities supporting health, wellness, and academic goals.Researches and disseminates information on community and academic activities.Supports the Graduate Programs Office in programming throughout the year.Student Organization SupportWorks with student organizations to provide guidance and institutional support.Serves as a liaison between students and stakeholders, ensuring smooth operations of activities.Advises on event planning, budgeting, advertising, and catering.Develops and executes leadership training for student organizations.Creates a new student orientation process ensuring compliance with policies.Project ManagementCreates ongoing support services aligned with the academic calendar.Develops resource guides and updates the student support section of the College's website.Creates leadership development opportunities for student leaders.Partners with other offices to create programming opportunities.Utilizes social media to communicate with students.Reviews and updates College policies, making recommendations to leadership.Required Skills:Bachelor's required, Master's degree preferred in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, College Student Development, or related field.Minimum of 5 years experience supporting diverse student populations.Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build a network across the university community.We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, natural or protective hairstyle, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military service, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, or because of marital, parental, or veteran status.
