Through a network of 11 regional centers and over 20 affiliate offices across NJ, the NJSBDC offers no cost consulting, no cost/low-cost training, and resources empowering entrepreneurs to start, grow, and prosper in the Garden State.Posting SummaryRutgers University-Newark (RU-N) is seeking an Associate Director. This dual-role position requires a strategic leader who can oversee both the financial management and operational functions of the NJSBDC as well as provide support for public-facing events and legislative meetings. Responsibilities include working with the CEO/State Director on crafting the network-wide strategic plan, handling external communications, and providing support for legislative endeavors at both federal and state levels. In-state and out-of-state travel is required.ResponsibilitiesFinancial ManagementBudgeting and financial planning for the NJSBDC Network to ensure organizational alignment with strategic goals.Completing all required quarterly grant reporting fiscal filings for multi-million dollar grants ensuring compliance.Establishing and maintaining adequate financial controls to safeguard financial assets.Overseeing correspondence for audit requests and concerns.Monitoring and forecasting cash flow to ensure financial obligations are met.Overseeing the creation and submission of Subawards, Purchase Orders, and Invoices.Managing financial data in Rutgers Financial systems and regional center systems.OperationalAssisting the CEO/State Director with performance reviews of Regional Directors and their centers.Assigning goals and metrics for service centers and tracking progress.Overseeing programmatic and narrative reporting to the SBA and other partners.Assisting with grant proposals and the accreditation process.Assisting with crafting and tracking the state strategic plan and regional work plans.This position is contingent on the continuation of external funding.Position Status : Full TimeQualificationsRequires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.Requires five years of related professional experience in a financial/accounting function in a leadership or managerial role.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesA minimum of five years of relevant experience in business accounting, nonprofit management, or grant management.Strong experience in financial management using General Ledger and database applications.Experience in conducting and responding to audits.Ability to manage multiple federal, state, and local grants/programs.Knowledge of financial management principles and practices.Understanding of public sector grant-funded program requirements.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in business, finance, or accounting.Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.Experience with federal grant program management.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentAbility to lift up to 50 lbs.Ability to travel in and out of state and work some nights and weekends.This will be a hybrid - remote and in-person as needed.Special Instructions to ApplicantsThis position is contingent on the continuation of external funding.
