Business Unit Controller

The North America Business Unit Controller will be located in the Dayco Global Headquarters office in Birmingham, MI. As a key business partner to the Vice President and General Manager of North America Aftermarket, the North America Business Unit Controller will provide financial leadership and will be responsible for managing and overseeing all financial activities of the North America Aftermarket.

The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, expertise in accounting systems and a focus on operational finance. A minimum of 11 years of prior experience in accounting and finance, including in a corporate and manufacturing or distribution environment is required. A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required along with a CPA certification. While an MBA is not required, a candidate with an MBA is highly valued. The role calls for strong leadership qualities, superior communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as a strategic financial advisor and business partner to the Vice President and General Manager of North America Aftermarket and related business unit leadership team by creating and implementing financial strategies and plans to achieve the business unit's objectives.
  • Develop and implement financial plan and budget aligned with business unit and corporate constituents that is complete, accurate and supports the achievement of business unit goals and objectives.
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting procedures across the business unit to ensure timeliness, completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of financial results and performance drivers and provide an accurate and independent view of the financial situation of the business unit (financial results, forecasts, and cash flow generation).
  • Analyze and interpret business unit financial data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for business unit financial improvement including sales growth, margin expansion and cash flow generation.
  • Provide timely insights to business unit management to support decision-making and achievement of the overall goals and objectives of the business unit.
  • Prepare and review financial reports and presentations for management and other stakeholders that provide detailed analysis and that improve insight into financial performance.
  • Review and analyze customer sales and profitability trends and assist with business unit action plans to drive growth and improve margins including assisting in development of new business quates and the development of pricing strategies and financial models.
  • Ensure ongoing alignment of business unit financial processes and deliverables with business unit management, corporate finance and other constituencies. Manage financial processes and deliverables through business unit management in line with established corporate finance deadlines (monthly close calendar, financial flashes, forecast reviews, BU and corporate operating reviews).
  • Prepare and review business cases in support of key investments and other decisions in support of achievement of the overall goals and objectives of the business unit.
  • Drive culture of continuous process improvement. Leverage tools and technologies to streamline and automate the financial management process including ERP, warehouse management system, and other financial software.
  • Provide guidance, support and training to managers and employees on financial matters, such as sales and orders, profitability, cost controls and performance, cash flow, working capital, internal control, capital expenditures and investment returns.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate implementation of a strong internal control environment by partnering with various stakeholders across the global Controllership and internal audit teams.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with other departments to achieve financial goals including strengthening processes around shared services support and interaction with the business unit.
  • Identify and assess risks & opportunities; develop risk mitigation plans and opportunity realization plans. Manage these initiatives with business unit leadership team.
  • Promote a finance culture in the business unit that is conscious of internal controls, governance policies, return on investment, cost of capital and cash-flow generation.
  • Promote an engaged business unit finance team focused on execution, timeliness and accuracy. Train and develop finance team members to upskill / reskill business unit accounting / finance professionals.
  • Coordination with internal and external auditors, managing effective design and operation of internal controls, and monitoring financial risks and implementing mitigation strategies.

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting; master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 11 years of prior experience in finance / accounting; including previous role in a financial leadership position.
  • A CPA certification is required; an MBA is highly valued.
  • Strong understanding of financial systems, general ledger, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and analysis is required.
