Job Description:

Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, performs a key role within the Office of Investments with primary accountability for Trinity's investment activities within the Private investment portfolio, which includes Private Equity, Growth Equity, Venture Capital, Real Assets, Opportunistic, and Private Credit strategies. These strategies combined ("Private Investment") portfolio accounts for 40% of Trinity's Long-Term Investment Pool target allocation.

Plays a key role and is actively involved in all aspects of portfolio strategy development and execution, portfolio analysis, investment manager due diligence and manager monitoring efforts for the Private Investment portfolio. High degree of exposure and a unique opportunity to work within a leading global investment portfolio allocated across a diverse range of investment strategies, industries, and regions. Offers specialized exposure to several portfolio areas in the Private Investments portfolio. Contributes to overall portfolio and manager discussions across the entire portfolio in a collaborative working style.

The Trinity University endowment is a $1.8 billion (as of December 31, 2023), globally diversified investment portfolio with investments across public and private equity, venture capital, real assets, hedge funds and fixed income. The purpose of the endowment is to provide a stable source of funding for current university operations and to preserve and grow purchasing power to benefit future generations of students. The endowment is critical to the University's ability to achieve its strategic goals; annual distributions from the endowment fund support approximately 40% of the annual $150 million operating budget.

JOB DUTY

Serves as key member of the investment team with focus on sourcing, screening, analysis, underwriting and monitoring for Private Investments. Drives investment process for Private investments and provides primary decision support to the Chief Investment Officer on Private investment recommendations, portfolio and pipeline management, and monitoring and endowment office initiatives.

Manages research and due diligence efforts for Private investment opportunities through quantitative and qualitative analyses, meeting attendance and participation, due diligence process documentation and written memo construction.

Leads meetings with general partners, management teams, and other relevant professionals to assess and evaluate investment managers and their funds.

Sources, identifies, and evaluates high-quality investment opportunities and provides thoughtful, independent and value-add analysis. Generates valuable feedback that demonstrates good judgment and data-driven analysis.

Serves as lead manager for the due diligence process and completes investment memos with limited supervision, as needed.

Acts as a first level of screening for manager inquiries and uses data to determine and communicate quality to the Chief Investment Officer.

Manages monitoring effort for Private investment asset classes and leads monitoring of existing managers.

Leads regular reviews of individual Private investment managers.

Develops asset class models and high value internal reporting of asset class attributes, risk management metrics and overall portfolio and general market characteristics, including portfolio exposure, performance, liquidity, cash flow and key risks.

Attends annual meetings as necessary for Private investment managers.

Supports the Investment Team on broader portfolio research projects, analytics and other endowment office initiatives. Conducts special projects pertaining to the University and helps in preparation and creation of Investment Committee materials.

Assists with interim and year-end requests associated with accounting, legal, tax and internal or external auditors regarding Trinity capital relationships.

Keeps up-to-date with the latest industry trends across private investments, financial markets, global economics and endowment and foundation industry. Reviews current market data supplied by industry sources and respected publications. Attends industry conferences as necessary.

Represents Trinity University and the investment program with the utmost integrity and professionalism.

Communicates and collaborates effectively with other Trinity University staff and peers in multiple functions, including legal, business officer, Marketing, and Alumni Relations and Development among others, as needed.

Serves as a respected ambassador for the organization at manager meetings, conferences and industry events.

Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.

Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.

EDUCATION

Required:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred:

Master's degree from an accredited institution or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Seven years of experience in investment management of related fields with a recognized and respected firm, i.e. an endowment, foundation, pension fund, family office, OCIO firm, consultant, investment management firm or investment banking firm.

Private investment experience - Experience underwriting Private Equity, Growth Equity, Venture Capital, Real Assets, Opportunistic, and Private Credit strategies as well as other types of private investments across geographies (U.S., Developed non-U.S., and Emerging Markets).

Required:

Ability to utilize quantitative analysis to develop a thesis and tell a clear story.

Understand endowment investing, portfolio asset class construction and rebalancing, investment valuation and relative valuation techniques.
