A law firm in Minneapolis, MN, is seeking a knowledgeable Tech and Data Associate Attorney to join their team. The role focuses primarily on data privacy compliance and security incident response/planning. The ideal candidate will have deep familiarity with privacy laws, including CCPA, CPA, VCDPA, CTDPA, GDPR, and experience with drafting and reviewing related agreements. A strong academic background and a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school are required. CIPP certification is preferred, and the candidate should be licensed in at least one U.S. jurisdiction with the ability to promptly get admitted in Minnesota.Duties and Responsibilities
Advise companies on compliance with comprehensive privacy laws, including CCPA, CPA, VCDPA, CTDPA, GDPR, and other relevant regulations.Assist in the development and implementation of data privacy policies and procedures.Draft, review, and negotiate data processing agreements, information security agreements, and other related legal documents.Provide guidance on software, SaaS, IP, and IT license, development, and services agreements.Support clients in managing and responding to security incidents and data breaches.Conduct legal research and analysis on emerging privacy and data security issues.Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure compliance with privacy and data protection laws.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in privacy laws and regulations.Requirements
2-5 years of experience in a law firm or in-house role, focusing on data privacy and technology law.Deep familiarity with privacy laws and regulations, including CCPA, CPA, VCDPA, CTDPA, GDPR, etc.Experience drafting and reviewing data processing agreements and related contracts.Strong academic background with a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.Active attorney license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction with the ability to obtain admission in Minnesota.Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.Certifications
Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification preferred.Skills
Strong knowledge of data privacy laws and security compliance.Excellent drafting and negotiation skills for technology and data-related agreements.Ability to analyze and interpret complex legal issues related to data privacy and security.Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Proficiency with legal research tools and case management software.
