POSITION SUMMARY

This is an exciting opportunity with the Community Development Department, Planning Division of the City of Dania Beach. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Planner Position. The ideal individual will be responsible for performing technical and professional planning services associated with the daily operations of the Community Development Department. Will also address current and comprehensive planning issues involving development review, zoning administration, and preparation tasks associated with comprehensive plan implementation. This position is within a small but busy division in a fast-paced work environment offering a diverse range of experiences in current planning, historic preservation, public art, transportation planning, and comprehensive planning.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Reviews building permit and site plan applications for compliance with the City’s Land Development Code and applicable board orders.Reviews development applications for completeness and conformity to Land Development Regulations.Research complex issues and drafts amendments for approval.Ensures adherence to established timelines regarding development petitions; reviews and tracks petition submittals; writes staff reports; reviews comments on site plans; and presents staff recommendations.Represents the Department at meetings and public hearings and has contact with other public and private agencies and officials at the local, county, state, and federal levels, as well as the public at large.Prepares various materials and documentation for public hearings and board presentations, e.g., variances, special exceptions, design variations, vacations of easements, development order amendments, land use plan amendments, and other applicable requests.Conducts the review of various types of development plans regulated by the city to ensure compliance with state and local requirements.Assists with the periodic review and update of the comprehensive plan, land development code, and other planning and development-related regulations; implements changes to same accordingly.Works a schedule as determined by the Department, which may include some nights, weekends, holidays, and before/after a declared emergency.Performs field inspections.Assists in the public hearing notification efforts of the department.Prepares maps, plans, charts, graphs, photographs, and other visual aids for use in a presentation.Assists with graphical and other support materials at/for meetings and public hearings.Serves a backup to the Planning Associate position whose tasks may include customer service counter coverage, certificate of use, vacation rental processing, zoning letters, spot survey review, and any other tasks assigned by the Planning and Zoning Manager, Assistant Director, or Director.What's required: (Minimum Requirements)

Bachelor’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning or a closely related field. The related fields include Planning, Administration, Social Sciences, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design.One (1) year of experience in municipal or county planning and zoning functions or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience (i.e., 5 years of experience without a Bachelor's degree).Possession of a valid driver’s license required with an overall good driving record. If the driver’s license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of the hire date.What's preferred: (Desired Requirements)

A Master's degree in Urban & Regional Planning or a closely related field. The related fields include Planning, Administration, Social Sciences, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design.Two (2) years of experience with municipal or county planning and zoning functions or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience (i.e., 6 years of experience without a Bachelor's degree).Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certification.
