We relentlessly pursue medicines to ease the burden of debilitating diseases and disorders, because you deserve brave science.About the Role:Responsible for developing and maintaining platforms, patterns, pipelines, assets & solutions for cross-functional data operations & analytics. This position will work in a team with others in the data engineering discipline within IT. They will deliver data ingress, integration, transformation & egress solutions that demonstrate practical iteration, flexibility to change, and resilience to common processing challenges. This position also seeks to empower others to adopt successful patterns & practices, increasing data ownership & contribution across business & IT functions.Our ideal candidate is experienced & growth minded with a passion for helping people access & use data effectively. They have experience with programming, data pipeline & data quality challenges and create practical, incremental solutions for complex problems. Pharmaceutical experience is a plus as it would help with business context & prioritization, but not required. It is more important that a candidate is prepared to handle a wide array of data processing challenges.Responsible for working with others on a cross-functional Data & Analytics team to design, develop, operationalize, and socialize the Business Intelligence (BI) strategy, roadmap, and architecture. This position will partner with our business stakeholders to translate requirements into BI solutions and work with the Enterprise Data and Analytics team, Business SMEs and IT Data Scientists to deliver solutions for BI and advanced analytics use cases. Additionally, this position is responsible for modeling complex analytical problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities for using various visualization tools and techniques. Must be proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets and semantics models and analytical solutions.Your Contributions:Collaborate with team members to develop & maintain data solutions for cross-functional stakeholdersEmpower cross-functional business & technical users with efficient access to high-quality dataDesign, develop & test data pipelines using code-based approaches, such as Python & SQLDesign & troubleshoot processes with complex requirements (e.g. low latency, precision)Profile and communicate data quality issues to appropriate stakeholdersNegotiate and address data quality concerns with upstream providersDeliver data models to support source accuracy & retention, shared & application specific useCreate and maintain metadata that supports privacy, cost allocation, AI & business needsAdminister data platforms and features relevant to the data engineering functionMeasure and propose improvement for the reliability of data pipelinesCreate and update documentation to support development work, definitions, and business rulesAct as a data consultant to stakeholders on data utility issues.Manage assigned tasks & communication.Adhere to security, privacy and regulatory policies and guidelines.Other job-related duties as assignedRequirements:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field and 4+ years in a data engineering capacity in conjunction with the development/maintenance of data pipelines & ETL/ELT processes using code-based programming ORMaster's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field and 3+ years as noted aboveStrong experience connecting to a variety of data sources, such as file systems, databases & APIsStrong experience transforming data using common ETL/ELT patternsStrong experience creating data pipelines - running historical & incremental loads in batch & real-timeStrong experience with programming languages, such as Python & SQLExperience with modern data platforms such as Databricks and/or SnowflakeExperience with cloud services in AWS and/or Microsoft AzureKnowledge/Experience with data transformation frameworks such as Databricks DLT or dbtExperience with ingress, manipulation & egress of a variety of file formats, such as JSON, XML, CSV, etc.Experience testing, troubleshooting & establishing API connectivity utilizing software documentation and tools such as PostmanExperience with data flow orchestrationExperience translating business requirements into technical requirements and data modelsExperience with Git/GitHub, Jira, and Agile workflows a plusExperience in Neurocrine's technology stack is preferred (Cloud: AWS, Platform: Databricks, Language: Python, SQL, BI: Power BI, Integration: Workato)Knowledge of industry trends, best practices & operating principles.Well-versed in data profiling, data manipulation and data analysis.Ability to write complex queries on large data sets from disparate data sourcesData Warehousing principles is a plusKnowledge and/or experience in predictive modeling and machine learning is a plus.Technical skill and/or ability to acquire in-depth knowledge/use of products to effectively position and convey the merits of the enterprise platform to customers and prospects.Understands key business drivers and uses this understanding to accomplish workHas strong understanding of processes, procedures and systems used to accomplish the work and recognizes downstream impact on other functional areasProficient with tools and processes that support work conducted by functional areaAbility to work as part of a team; may train lower levels.Excellent computer skillsStrong communications, problem-solving, analytical thinking skills.Detail oriented yet can see broader picture for department.Ability to meet multiple deadlines, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.Strong project management skills.Neurocrine Biosciences is an EEO/AA/Disability/Vets employer. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 20% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
