In this role, you will report directly to the Avionics Manager, interfacing with customers and inter-disciplinary project teams to develop electrical components and avionics systems and provide organization-wide technical leadership. You are responsible for flight avionics development, sample acquisition, handling devices, and other instruments used in planetary exploration and space applications.Responsibilities:

Serve as a technical leader within the organization, mentoring junior engineers and helping to define and standardize processesSystems requirements definition and analog and digital circuit design for autonomous spacecraft instrumentsDesign, manufacturing, and checkout of custom high-reliability PCBs for various avionics applicationsHarness design and assembly instructions for high-reliability applicationsElectrical ground support equipment (EGSE) design and documentationAnalysis and test planning, execution, and data review for verification of requirements for electrical systemsDevelop and generate work instruction packages for manufacturing and testingSupport R&D and flight projects through all phases of development and deliveryProactively identify roadblocks to technical progress and take steps to mitigate themProvide subject matter expertise in flight avionics and electrical components, consulting with project teams and reviewing designs and test plans of electrical-engineering peersRequired Qualifications:

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field5+ years in spacecraft system design (Power, Motion, Propulsion, Telemetry / Command) and 8+ years general engineering experienceFamiliarity with EEE-INST-002 parts classification, selection of radiation-hardness-assured components, and radiation-mitigation strategiesProficiency in most of the following:

Worst-case analysis, circuit Finite Element Analysis, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)Design and application of digital communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, RS-422, RS-232, CANPower system design, specifically Buck/Boost and LDO topologies and distributed grounding schemesLow-noise analog design for mixed sensor types (PRT, thermocouple, photodiode, etc)Experience or familiarity with most of the following:

High-voltage electrical systems (120V+) and battery technologies used on spacecraftExecution of environmental tests as per standards such as MIL-STD-461 or GSFC-STD-7000IPC-JSTD-001 requirements soldered electronic assemblies (inspection and operation)NASA 8739.4 harnessing standard and general requirements for harness designMotor drive design for Brushless DC (BLDC) motorsFPGA- or MCU-based embedded system designProficient in using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, electronic loads, and LCR metersExperience with Altium schematic capture and PCB layout tool or equivalent, and Microsoft Visio or similar toolStrong communication skills and experience presenting technical detail to external customersDetail-oriented with an emphasis on design documentation and summary report generationExperience as a people leader and mentor is highly desirableCompensation and Benefits:
