Program and Position Overview:

The Controller of JASA Housing Management Company (JHM) (under the supervision of JASA's Chief Financial Officer) works closely with the Executive Director of Real Estate and Management and other Housing Division personnel to ensure the effectiveness of the financial operations, general accounting and planning for JASA's housing portfolio. JASA's housing portfolio currently consists of eleven senior supportive housing entities. Eight of the housing entities are owned by JASA and managed by JHM while the remaining three entities are managed by JHM for a fee.

This position is responsible for the core accounting functions for JASA Housing Management Corporation and JASA's Housing portfolio (including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, intercompany analysis, cash management and tax reporting). The Controller is the financial and administrative liaison for all of JASA's housing corporations with funders, banks, auditors and housing management and executive personnel. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management 5 professional staff.

Position responsibilities:Responsible for the general accounting, payroll, procurement, accounts receivable, accounts payable, monthly financial statement preparation functions for JASA Housing Management and the eleven housing entities within the portfolioCoordinates the monthly and annual closing activities for JHM and the housing entities entities working closely with the Controller of JASA Services on the consolidated JASA management reporting.Maintain the internal control environment for JHM an the eleven housing entitiesEnsure that all financial activities are recorded in compliance with GAAP and federal/NY State requirements.Responsible for reconciling all inter-company activity affecting JHM and the housing entities.Responsible for the treasury management function serving as the main liaison with our banks for JHM and the Housing entities.Prepares cash projections for JHM and analyses, monitors and projects the cash flow for all properties.Responsible for the reconciliation of real estate due, where applicable, and works with the NYC Department of Finance to resolve any billing issues.Reconciles the escrow accounts by property including replacement reserves, water, tax and sewer.Responsible annual budgeting process for JHM as well as the entire housing portfolioCoordinate the annual financial and governmental audits for JHM and the housing portfolio (annual audit only) serving the primary liaison with the independent auditors; responsible for the oversight of various other regulatory and government filings including RPIEs, REAC filings, etc.Oversee the annual tax reporting process for JHM and the entire housing portfolio (where necessary)Assist with the annual W2, 1099 and 941 reporting process as it affects JHM and the housing entitiesEstablish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, polices and operating procedures.Additional responsibilities, as necessary.Qualifications and Skills:

A Bachelor's degree in accounting required; A CPA is preferred.At least 8 to 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years working for a large real estate corporation or a non profitShould be familiar with New York City, New York State and federally funded housing operations.Strong knowledge of real estate accounting including construction, renovation and refinancing activities.Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well with a wide array of constituents.Proficient at training and evaluating staffAbility to lea6d and manage projects.Ability to work well within a busy and fast paced environment is essential.Must be proficient with MS Excel and familiarity with general ledger software packages specific to the real estate industry, Real page Accounting or OneSite preferred.
