Job Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator - Victim Services works to develop a comprehensive volunteer program, including recruitment, recognition, retention, training, and scheduling of volunteers for all agency programs. The Volunteer Coordinator - Victim Services will work closely with program coordinators. The Volunteer Coordinator - Victim Services will also provide community outreach and work with citizens and special interest groups to develop, implement and coordinate the Victim Services Program. This role is responsible for recommending, implementing, and evaluating programs which serve victims' needs. In addition, they will work with and use other organizations/programs as referrals and information sources, prepare quarterly reports, communicate with victims, families, other agencies, City officials, and co-workers. Frequent contact with department personnel, victims of crime, witnesses, personnel from other law enforcement agencies, and other local, state, and national victim advocacy groups and agencies. Must take rotating on-call duty and be available to respond evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.

Please note:

This is a grant funded position for the next two years. Employment may or may not be available after the two-year period is over. This position is part time for 2024, however, may be considered for full time in 2025. Typical working hours are Monday - Thursday. Working hours are subject to change depending on department needs i.e., weekend fairs, community events, training, etc.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum RequirementsHigh School diploma or equivalent.Valid driver's license with good driving recordOne (1) year experience working with computers and Microsoft Office.OR

Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.Preferred

Bilingual in Spanish and English.Two (2) years' experience in victim advocacy.One (1) experience working within a law enforcement sector.One (1) experience working within a municipality.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Responsible for recruitment, retention, and recognition of all volunteers.Recruits volunteers for internal and external opportunities, including events, using varied methods and techniques via online, email, and in-person recruitment.Answers phones, transfers calls, takes messages, answers questions, and provides information to callers.Maintains volunteer job listings.Manages the volunteer application process.Develops, enters, and manages the volunteer database.Manages onboarding and placement opportunities for volunteers.Coordinates all administrative duties related to volunteers and volunteer resources.Coordinates internal volunteer projects, office support, facility, phone calls, and research.Facilitates monthly volunteer meetings.Assists with volunteer appreciation activities, recognition incentives, and retention programs.Maintains volunteer calendar for on call shifts.Tracks and reports volunteer hours for the agency and VOCA grant.Facilitates communication channels with all volunteersGenerates summary reports of each volunteerOversees the maintenance of volunteer personnel records and volunteer personnel manual.Responds on scene as needed.Works with administration to identify and develop community outreach programs.Implements and evaluates programs that serve the needs of victims.Prepares procedural recommendations.Provides outreach, education, and support to community groups.Acts as liaison between officers and citizens.Works in conjunction with the District Attorney's Victim/Witness Assistance Program and other related agencies to make client referrals as appropriate.Initiates and maintains communication with the victims of serious crimes and their families to provide crisis counseling and updates on investigation progress.Identifies available community resources to assist victims and coordinate these services.Performs related duties as required by management to comply with law enforcement directives.Performs job duties and takes proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances and act accordingly to prevent accidents.Conducts business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.Deals with the public in situations involving severe physical and personal trauma.Supervisory Responsibilities:

Vision enough to interpret written communication and operate vehicles in normal and adverse situations.Hearing and speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly face-to-face as well as over the phone. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects.Communication skills sufficient to convey information via telephone and in person.
