Assistant Controller

As an Assistant Controller, you will work closely with the Senior Controller and other members of the accounting department to ensure accuracy in reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements. You will oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes as well as the reporting for investment funds and joint ventures.
Responsibilities
Accounting (~35% of time)Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes and reporting for investment funds and joint ventures.Manage internal practices on accounting General Ledger entries and regular journaling operations.Optimize accounting practices for Havenpark's industry-specific needs.Support Senior Controller in general accounting practices and reporting.Establish and monitor internal financial and budget controls.Establish/maintain processes for accurate tax accounting, reconciliation, and payments.Reporting and Process Management (~30% of time)Works closely with internal teams to provide accurate and timely financial reports, including ad hoc and specialty reports as needed.Evaluates accounting processes and systems and implements optimizations.Ensure that accounting policies and procedures adhere to GAAP standards and are documented and followed by the organization.Audit Support (~20% of time)Coordinate with auditors, tax preparers, and 3rd party asset managers/accounting teams.Ensure regular practices will result in positive audit outcomes.Team Player and Role Model
(~15% of time)Trains, develops, and directs other accounting professionals and support staff.Actively participate in team meetings.Perform other duties and projects as assigned.Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required, Master's Degree preferred.Credentials : Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.Experience : You have 5-10 years of experience in real estate (commercial, multi-family, hospitality, manufactured housing, etc.) Experience with joint venture capital and private equity investment funds is a plus.Software : Strong knowledge of computer software programs, such as Microsoft Office. Experience with Sage Intacct and Coupa is nice but not required.Skills : You have strong analytical and organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure timely follow-up to deadlines. In addition, you have excellent written and verbal communication skills.Additional Requirements : You are able to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver's license, and have a good driving record.
