We employ nearly 1,000 employees in more than 100 locations in 33 states and operate the largest railcar services network in the industry, encompassing 18 large railcar repair facilities and more than 75 field services locations in addition to a rail services division that operates three short line railroads and a dozen contract switching and transloading sites.
The Purchasing Agent is a member of the corporate procurement team responsible for expediting the ordering and delivery process for materials needed to support production. Duties include supporting material managers and purchasing managers to assist in meeting material requirements. Incumbent will maintain standard pricing and will engage with vendors on pricing and selection.Timely ordering of materials and services in accordance with policies and proceduresDevelop and manage vendor relationships to support strategic and budgeted purchasing and material goalsEnsure vendor compliance with policies and proceduresAssist in implementation and maintenance of programs related to inventory control, procurement, data management and reportingObtain quotes for new and existing parts and servicesControl inbound and outbound freightExplore alternate sourcing for goods and materialsTimely follow up on open purchase orders and back ordersCreate and maintain part numbersParticipate in physical inventory and cycle countsConfer with vendors and accounts payable to resolve material and vendor invoicing discrepanciesQualifications
Job Qualifications:
High school diploma required; bachelors degree preferredMinimum of 3 years of industrial purchasing experience requiredFamiliarity with AAR and company pricing standards and repair descriptionsWorking knowledge of purchasing and inventory controlsProficient in computer software applicationsAbility to organize and prioritize tasksAbility to make independent judgments within scope of responsibility
