EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON PROTECTION AND ANIMAL WELFARE SERVICE AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.Under the supervision of the JPAWS Manager, the purpose of the position is to manage a variety of animal health care tasks performed at JPAWS. In addition to performing all of the tasks required of the JPAWS Care Specialist, this position is responsible for day-to-day supervision of staff. Position is responsible for training staff, supervising staff, and performing daily administrative activities. Employees in this classification perform supervisory and administrative work. Supervises and coordinates activities of staff attending to animals. Performs a variety of management duties to include assigning, instructing, and reviewing work of subordinate staff, monitoring work performance, maintaining standards through the effective coordination of activities, and handling various personnel issues; assists in interviewing, hiring, and training with input from the director. Manages and prepares next day surgery list. Maintains records, ensures license requirements are met, and assists in maintaining a clean and safe facility by performing various cleaning activities and conducting safety inspections. Performs related work as required. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.Minimum Qualifications:

Meets one of the following options:Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status as a JPAWS Care Specialist.Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; plus, considerable (approx. three years), paid experience in the care and handling of animals or supervision of staff in a medical veterinary setting.Possession of an accredited Associate’s degree (or completion of at least 60 college credit hours), including successful completion of nine (9) credit hours in biological sciences, animal health/science, humane leadership, veterinary technology, or closely related; plus, significant (approx. one year), paid experience in the care and handling of animals or supervision of staff in a medical veterinary setting.Preferred:

Active licensure as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine.Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.Examination Process:

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof.
