General Technician Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnless otherwise specified, the General Service Technician is responsible for all daily internal service related interactions. The responsibility includes, but is not limited to, a dedication to the companys mission statement, to company profitability and 100% customer satisfaction.Enforce all company policies as defined in the SMEG Company HandbookInteract with entire service staffMaintain clean/safe work areas, cleanliness of tool and ensure proper tool storage, for both personal and company ownedMaintain neat and professional personal appearance at all timesUnder direct supervision of the Shop Foreman, the General Service Technician will assist shop and or field service technicians with assigned vehicle maintenance repairsPerform proper and accurate vehicle diagnosis, services and repairs as directed by management.Perform quality repairs and services in a timely mannerProvide Shop Foreman and Assistant Manager(s) with accurate estimated labor timesProvide Shop Foreman and Assistant Manager(s) with complete parts needed listParticipate in quality check process with Shop Foreman and Assistant Manager(s)Understanding of productivity goals and review for areas in need of improvementFollow company processes and procedures as defined in the SMEG operations manualParticipate in morning meetings with service staff to plan the dayMaintain accurate, timely and legible company designed reports and paperworkNotice and report potential problem areas to management before they ariseMaintain a successful working relationship with Pierce Manufacturing personnelEnforce policies and procedures as defined in the Pierce Manufacturing operations manualResponsible for responsive/timely travel to designated sites and locations as directed/scheduledQualifications
The General Service Technician must be able to clearly demonstrate their ability to set and reach performance goals set forth by the owner/operator.
Must be willing to travel to other site locations and stations as needed.Experience within Fire and Emergency related industry a plus.Must work towards obtaining both EVT Master Tech and Pierce Master Technician statusProven track record of successExcellent communication skills both verbal and writtenExceptional organizational methods (Work area, Safety, Tool & Equipment Organization)Possess exceptional leadership and motivational skillsDedication to customer service and business successAbility to engage in and maintain positive relationships with employees and customersComputer skills: Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook Email, Microsoft Word & Excel programs as well with any company provided softwareEducation and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED2 Plus years with experience in an automotive service related industry and/or technical school certificate.Clean driving record with a Class B non-exempt CDL driver license or able to obtain within six months of hire.Knowledge of repair principles and procedures in all areas of the Heavy Truck Repair IndustryCertificates, Licenses, Registrations
EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) and ASE Heavy Truck Certifications are a plus
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk stairs and/or climb ladders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
