Position OverviewWe are currently seeking a dynamic Head of Business Development (Sr. Director/VP/SVP/CBO) to join our team, reporting directly to the CEO. Though the position is ideally based in Seattle, remote work arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates. In this pivotal role, you will craft and execute the business development strategy, identifying collaboration and partnership opportunities to maximize the potential of Talus Bio's unique technology platform.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Serve as a member of Talus Bio's leadership team and lead the development of an ambitious business development plan, integrating scientific, strategic, and financial objectives.
Identify and source potential partners relevant to our technology platform for transcription factor drug discovery and development.
Generate and manage business development materials and communications for prospective partners.
Lead negotiation and due diligence processes for partnership deals, capturing the full value provided by our innovative technology platform and oncology pipeline programs.
Collaborate with the scientific team to prioritize therapeutic targets and valuable data packages to drive success of the business development plan.
Establish and oversee an internal business development organizational system, which includes tracking, documenting, and reporting the status of all collaborations in the pipeline.
Recruit, nurture, and mentor a high-performing business development team.
Actively engage in various forums, internal (e.g., Board of Directors meetings) and external (business development conferences).
Cultivate and maintain a robust network of potential partners and key contacts, fostering long-term relationships.

Required Skills and Experience
BS, MS, or PhD in biology, chemistry, or another scientific field.
10+ years progressive business development experience, including 2+ years in roles with leadership responsibilities.
Proven success in initiating, closing, and managing significant business development transactions, especially for platform technologies.
Demonstrated experience in structuring, negotiating, and closing a wide range of transactions (strategic alliances, M&A, licensing agreements, joint ventures, equity investments, etc.)
An extensive network within the pharmaceutical and biotech/biopharma sectors, with a focus on oncology therapeutics companies.
Solid scientific background, ideally in therapeutics, complemented by a comprehensive understanding of drug discovery trends and the competitive landscape.
Ability to interface effectively with various departments including leadership, R&D, finance, legal, and with external stakeholders.
Experience in building, developing, and leading high-performing teams.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience in a fast-paced, venture-backed startup environment.
Buy-side business development experience in biotech or pharma.
Sell-side business development experience within a platform biotechnology company.
In-depth understanding of oncology therapeutics and/or small molecule drug development.

Salary and BenefitsThe base salary for this role will be dependent on experience and the level of role offered, with a targeted annual base salary range of $175,000 - $250,000. In addition, performance bonuses will be based on the value of deals closed. We offer competitive compensation including salary, benefits, and equity in a fast-growing start-up. Job title will be set based on experience and track record; therefore, we encourage applicants with a wide range of backgrounds to apply.
