It is a great place to start or continue your career as an in-house patent attorney in the pharmaceutical industry.We are seeking an experienced IP counsel to join our growing in-house IP legal team to support BeiGene’s R&D, business development, and commercialization efforts as we further our vision to develop and commercialize molecularly targeted and immuno-oncology cancer therapeutics. This position will report to the Senior IP Counsel, and will be in our Cambridge, MA, San Mateo, CA, or Emeryville, CA offices.Responsibilities

Identify patentable inventions, draft patent applications, work together with outside counsel on patent filing, prosecution and patent portfolio matters and collaborate with R&D on inventions and freedom to operate.Conduct patent and prior art search, competitive landscape analysis, patentability, and freedom to operate analysis.Draft IP provisions of contract templates, as well as review and negotiate IP clauses in relevant BeiGene contracts.Support business development and research collaborations, including due diligence assessments, on contract drafting and negotiation, and alliance management of existing collaborations.Monitor patent trends and case law developments in major markets, and adjust IP strategies accordingly, and advocate positions important to BeiGene in matters concerning IP government and regulatory policy.Review draft publications and presentations.Provide litigation support, including validity and non-infringement analysis.Manage trademark matters.Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have managerial responsibility or budgetary discretion.Computer Skills

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint.Other Qualifications

Advanced degree in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or other chemical sciences required. Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school.Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical patent practice.Chinese language skills strongly preferred.Deep understanding of global pharmaceutical patent laws, regulatory data protection laws, regulations and best practices, in the U.S., China, and Europe.Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or strong understanding of pharmaceutical R&D and commercialization.Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills, with the ability and confidence to represent BeiGene in the area of patent law.Prior experience managing projects strongly preferred.In-depth knowledge and experience in counseling drug discovery and development and commercial launch. Proven track record of patent portfolio development.Experience and skill at drafting patent applications and responses to patent office actions.Team-oriented and able to build strong cross-functional relationships and influence others without direct line reporting authority.A demonstrated ability to collaborate, as well as to work independently, balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with a high level of professionalism.Highly effective communication skills (both verbal and written).Ability to understand complicated laws and regulations and translate them into practical, business-oriented legal counsel.Detail-oriented.Ability to handle confidential and proprietary information using excellent discretion and judgment.Self-motivated, able to work independently and be reliable and responsive.Ability to be flexible and willing to accept new responsibilities as needed.Education Required

Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school; admitted to USPTO, and at least one state bar.Travel

BeiGene is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Actual compensation packages are determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location. Packages may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor. The recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for a preferred location during the hiring process. Please note that the listed range reflects the base salary or hourly range only. Non-Commercial roles are eligible to participate in the annual bonus plan, and Commercial roles are eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
