The Lead Software Engineer will lead one or more teams in the development and delivery of key technology components under the Individual Markets New Business and Underwriting Technology organization. IM New Business and Underwriting area is undertaking key critical initiatives to enhance and automate the underwriting, issue, and delivery process. This role will work directly with solution architects, multi-functional collaborators, and development team members to define, design and deliver the technical solutions that will support the business’s vision, strategy and goals. The role will specifically support the objectives aligned with the Underwriting and Admin System transformation programs, implementing new solutions and enhancing or replacing legacy platforms. This position will have hands-on involvement in the development process and requires full knowledge of Scrum and SAFe. You may be asked to provide input on other team members for the performance management process.

You Will:Lead the efforts of development team(s) consisting of resources spread across multiple time zones and countries. Work with offshore counterpart to coordinate completion of all team assignments, ensuring deadlines and turning points are met.Work with the development team(s) to ensure consistent software architecture and coding practices are used in all applications. Look for opportunities to create shared code modules to use across applications.Take a leadership and mentoring role when working with less experienced staff always setting the standard of technical expertise within the organization.Informs project team members on progress and potential problems that jeopardize deadlines and achievements. Makes recommendations and modifications; removes obstacles.Helps to define roles and responsibilities within the development team. Is agile and flexible, shifting resources to align with changing priorities.Works with Product Owners and Scrum Masters on feasibility analysis, costs, and resource projections, facilitates architects and teams to generate technical design plans, ensures product specifications and quality standards are met.Liaise with Production Support teams to ensure well-planned and timely handoffs of new features, thorough documentation including a well-groomed document repository, and committed partnership for called out defects or severity events.Works with architects to resolve best technical solutions and applications for overall use in company products. Provides technical consultation to executive staff in resolving competitive strategies.Lead implementation efforts for new applications and code updates. Work with enterprise and shared service teams on infrastructure setup, review board approvals, and deployment coordination.Stays abreast of new technology trends and advantages. Makes recommendations for direction of new and existing products. Defines application roadmaps which includes a strategy around minimizing technical debt.Reviews and approves all coding and documentation, user manuals, testing documentation and procedures for existing and future applications.Ensure compliance with security, privacy, legal, infrastructure, and administrative/corporate processes and policies.Works with Production Support and other Shared Services teams in support of our products and customer.

You Have:Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field8-10 years of full stack professional software development experience. 5+ years in a lead role.7+ years of experience with Microsoft .net technologies, including dotnet core.5+ years of experience with front-end technologies/framework including Angular JS, Angular 2, React JS, Node JS, HTML, and CSS.Expertise in SQL server using primarily nHibernate or Entity Framework.Experience with windows server and IIS configurations required to troubleshoot and configure IIS hosted websites and windows services.Experience with service-oriented and cloud native software architectures.Experience with modern web application development, including build tools, testing and CI/CD.Experience with secure programming practices, software delivery and cloud security principles.Experience with cloud technology including AWS, Docker, SNS/SQS.Experience with source control and development workflows: Bitbucket, Git.Familiarity with API architectures including microservice strategy.Demonstrable ability to take leadership role in projects that span multiple teams, ability to deliver on time working in a fast-paced agile environment.Proven track record of developing and supporting large scale business critical systems.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; proven understanding of coding aesthetics, able to review code, and provide suggestions.Must be comfortable in a fast pace, changing environment where the majority of your teammates are remote and/or in different time zones.Has strong presentation and collaboration skills and can clearly articulate all aspects of the job requirements, including the creation of formal documentation.Jump in and get going quickly with a positive demeanor. Not easily deterred by ambiguity.

Location & Travel:Live within commutable distance to one of the following locations Holmdel, NJ; New York, NY; Bethlehem, PA; Pittsfield, MA; with work from home flexibility.Occasional travel to other Guardian offices (0-10%).

Salary Range:$114,080.00 - $187,415.00The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
