The Business Controller is part of the controlling team consisting of three additional controllers supporting the organization (Service, Projects, Supply Chain and Factory) of Vanderlande in North America (including Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean). The Controller is a key member of the teams responsible for ensuring that the financial health of the Organization is reported accurately in the financial reports. The Controller works directly with the (Execution) Managers to help define the Organization's goals and objectives; create and maintain budgets and based on analysis recommend actions to improve the accuracy of projections.

JOB TASKS AND DUTIES:
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data for Service Contracts, Projects, Supply Chain, Factory or Business Support.
  • Continually assess ongoing processes to identify areas for potential improvement. As required, participate in initiatives to improve processes (i.e. participate in working groups).
  • Ensure compliance with the Company's financial policies and procedures. Serve as a liaison between the business office and operations.
  • Collaborate with the Administration on the monthly reconciliation of billed/unbilled vs. revenue activity to include researching unexplained reconciling items.
  • Regularly monitor assigned financial performance and cost estimates to complete latest estimates (LE) for reasonableness against plans and actual expense rate.
  • Coordinates with the Financial Administrators to ensure Customer invoices are accurately prepared and timely submitted and include customer reporting and invoicing obligations and other items that may affect the project's set up in JD Edwards E1.
  • Reviews financial activities for compliance with procedures and standards.
  • Coordinates with the (Execution) Managers on a monthly or quarterly basis to prepare updated cost estimates.
  • Provides financial guidance and support to facilitate the accurate set-up, performance and maintaining of assigned projects and service contracts based on requirements and in compliance with the company set up rules to ensure the proper reporting of revenue and profits.
  • Initiates, conducts and documents monthly financial meetings with team members
  • Presents facts accurately and clearly to team members and management. Provides solutions when opportunities present.
  • Discusses financial risks with (Execution) managers and upper management and ensures risk is properly represented in the financial reports.
  • Monthly reporting of revenue and cost for anticipated sales for future months as well as future financial year for submission to HQ in The Netherlands.
  • Year-end closure, analysis, comments to management, explaining figures to external auditors and HQ in the Netherlands, especially as they pertain to projects.
  • Collecting and analyzing of data for annual budget, comments, matching of Intercompany deliveries.
  • Assures that all reporting occurs in line with corporate guidelines as included in the accounting manual and in line with IFRS for SME.
  • Cost Analysis

  • Create reports at senior management request


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Undergrad in Finance or Accounting is required, Advanced degree in Finance or Related field is preferred.
  • Excellent MS Excel skills (Pivot Tables, V-Look-ups, Summary Data, Convert between data and text)
  • JD Edwards E1 experience desired but not required
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience as a controller in a project organization is required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills
