Southeast Building Supply Interests (SBSI), a Building Industry Partners portfolio, is seeking a Controller to join the finance team. This role will lead and direct our financial and accounting operations. You'll be at the heart of developing and optimizing accounting systems that drive our company's success and profitability. As a key member of the finance team, your expertise will shape our financial strategies and ensure our continued growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Accounting Team: Oversee all functions including financial planning, reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.
  • Financial Stewardship: Manage the receipt, disbursement, banking, protection, and custody of funds, securities, and financial instruments in line with company policies.
  • Internal Controls: Develop and monitor internal control policies to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations. Conduct audits to maintain financial integrity.
  • Strategic Analysis: Analyze financial details to identify opportunities and issues, providing actionable recommendations to achieve our short-term and long-term goals.
  • Tax Compliance: Prepare and file annual tax returns, ensuring all financial information is accurate and timely.
  • Financial Relationships: Build and maintain positive relationships with financial institutions to support our financial activities.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present financial statements, business activity reports, forecasts, and budgets. Ensure all documentation adheres to GAAP standards.
  • Compliance and Oversight: Review financial reports for accuracy and completeness. Report any internal control deficiencies or fraud to the CFO.
  • Departmental Support: Provide guidance on accounting, budgeting, and financial resource utilization across departments.
  • Cost Management: Integrate cost or construction accounting systems with general accounting and advise management on cost control.
  • Flexibility: Adapt to changing directives and take on new responsibilities as needed.

Education & Experience:
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience (15 years) may be considered.
  • Professional Certification: CPA, CFM, or CMA preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in Accounting or a related field.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of best practices, risk assessment, standards, and relevant laws/regulations.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Office Suite, accounting, and tax software.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication, with clear presentation abilities.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong mathematical skills and financial insight.
  • Problem-Solving: Critical thinker with a knack for resolving issues.
  • Strategic Planning: Capable of strategic planning and data analysis.
