Assistant Director of Academic Support

Responsible for monitoring and administering the department’s academic and student development program in compliance with University, Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA rules and regulations, to include providing managerial oversight of matters related to the academic status for student-athletes.

Responsibilities

Oversees the academic progress and success of student-athletes

by serving as the liaison between the Athletic Department, the Student Success Center and the Office of Academic Affairs.

Provides supplemental academic counseling for student-athletes

and ensures student-athletes are eligible by working with the Compliance Office staff and the Registrar’s Office in processing and certifying continuing eligibility in accordance with NCAA regulations.

Serves as lead academic advisor for assigned sports , including meeting with new student athletes weekly, sending updated academic reports to coaches and monitoring appropriate progress towards degree.

Assists student-athletes in selecting and declaring an academic major

and assist student-athletes each semester during the pre-registration process by monitoring their class schedules for graduate requirements and special athletic needs, such as travel and practice.

Coordinates programming and initiatives for student-athlete development

in areas such as peer mentoring, career counseling, financial literacy, student-athlete wellness and other life-skills areas.

Coordinates various academic honor and recognition events.

Assists with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee

by serving as a supplemental contact point between the conference and the student athlete representatives of St. Bonaventure University in regards to initiatives, monthly SAAC Meetings and other duties as assigned.

Assists coaches with recruitment activities

for the department by meeting with prospective student-athletes and their parents during campus visits.

Other duties as assigned , including but not limited to, assistance with game day operations, assistance with summer orientation and bridge programs and classroom site visits to monitor attendance and accountability.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in counseling, sports administration or related field preferred.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

One to three years of working with collegiate athletes preferred.
