IntroductionThis is a new assembled examination. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended. Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing. Failure to submit the Application or Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires will only be accepted online.DESCRIPTIONAlameda County Health is the local government agency that promotes and protects the health and well-being of all who live, work, learn, and play in Alameda County. We coordinate services and cultivate partnerships with community organizations and providers to help ensure access, organize, and deliver health care and services to people with Medi-Cal and without insurance, support resilient communities, and improve health for all. We focus on health equity by developing programs and systemic solutions that reduce disparities for the people and communities we serve.THE POSITIONUnder general direction, leads planning, design, and implementation of epidemiology surveillance, and evaluation activities at the program level, including epidemiological studies; oversees and provides lead direction and technical expertise for epidemiology program goals and objectives; and performs related work as required.THE IDEAL CANDIDATEIn addition to meeting the minimum qualifications below, the ideal candidate will possess the following critical attributes:Leading the development of high-level reports, presentations and dashboards to inform staff and programs, policy makers, community, students and professionals.Project management to establish scope, priorities, tasks, timelines, and completion of epidemiologic analysis projects.Identifying health inequities and drivers of health inequities, and considering policy and programmatic approaches to reducing health inequities.Providing guidance to stakeholders on designing and implementing surveillance, research, or evaluation that includes analyzing quantitative health-related data.Leading the cleaning, analysis, and synthesis of quantitative program, surveillance, and/or outbreak data for dissemination.Designing and conducting quantitative analyses regarding health inequities and the structural drivers or social determinants of health.Acting in a lead capacity coordinating, monitoring, and reviewing work; mentorship and coaching; and providing specialized technical assistance and training.Appropriately applying the principles and practices of epidemiology, statistics and public health including disease surveillance, designing epidemiologic analyses, and conducting descriptive and/or multivariable analysis.Manipulating, analyzing, and synthesizing data for reports, presentations and publications.Identifying and integrating information from a variety of sources; detecting trends, associations, and cause-effect relationships.Delivering presentations suited to the needs of technical audiences, lay audiences, and communities disproportionately affected by health inequities.Building partnerships and developing collaborative rapport with various entities such as academic institutions, health care organizations, community-based organizations, and state and federal public health partners.Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills.Proactively problem-solving and learning new skills.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEITHER I Experience: The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in the class of Epidemiologist II in the Alameda County classified service. OR II Education: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in epidemiology, biostatistics, social/behavioral sciences or another closely related field. AND Experience: The equivalent of four years of full-time, professional-level epidemiology experience, preferably in a public health, health care delivery, or academic institution setting.EXAMINATION COMPONENTSThe examination will consist of the following steps: A review of applicants' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those applicants who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. A review of candidates’ Supplemental Questionnaires to determine the best qualified. Those candidates considered the best qualified will move on to the final step in the examination process.
