Job Objective:

The Director of Major Gifts is a key member of the Central Territory Major Giving Programs leadership team.

Provides coaching and leadership to Senior Donor Relations Directors and Donor Relations Directors within the territory charged with securing financial support through caseloads ranging in value from introductory mid six-figures to mature portfolios in multi-million ranges.

Works with Senior Donor Relations Director to appropriately set goals, and uses data and metrics to ensure goals are being met.

Supports seamless application of Territorial Major Giving Programs practices including job performance metrics, database usage, and communication protocols.

Works with Senior Donor Relations Director and divisional leadership to design caseloads for maximum donor achievement.

Assists the Sr. Director of Philanthropy in determining and applying internal policies across disciplines (Planned Giving, Direct Marketing, Major Gifts) to foster successful program management.

Essential Functions:

Demonstrates strong understanding of territorial, divisional and local/corps major gifts fundraising goals and major gift roles in achieving successful outcomes.

Provides leadership and coaching to Senior Donor Relations Directors to ensure Donor Relations Director caseloads are structured and contain appropriate major gift donors.

Participates in development of annual strategic moves management and donor communications plans, in collaboration with Sr. Donor Relations Director.

Clearly communicates major gifts program metrics, including monthly/annual visits required, time in the field required, donor communication “touches” required.

In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Strategy and Outcomes, establishes a system of data analytics to ensure all metrics are monitored on a consistent basis.

In collaboration with Sr. Director of Philanthropy, helps develop strategies to involve key leadership volunteers or natural partners in solicitations where appropriate.

Provides leadership and guidance to Sr. Donor Relations Director in creating appropriate caseloads for each Donor Relations Director.

Ensures appropriate dissemination of any new donor data and prospect research data to Sr. Donor Relations Director for assignment.

Promotes a collaborative working relationship between planned giving, major gift and capital campaign staff.

Supports territorial directives regarding correct use of the database for recording major gifts donor-related activities.

On a monthly basis meets with leadership in each assigned division to provide reporting and strategy on established metrics.

Meets with Sr. Director of Philanthropy on a regular basis to review progress against goals.

Submits timely, accurate reports as directed by the Sr. Director of Philanthropy.

Participates in organizing training opportunities benefiting Donor Relation Director staff members.

Other duties as assigned by Sr. Director of Philanthropy.

Education & Certification:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree required in Philanthropic Studies, Non-Profit Management or related field.

Experience:

Management experience required. Five or more years of experience with individual major gifts with documented track record of success of securing gifts at six-figure level or a combination of success in high end sales management with experience in major gifts fundraising.

OR: Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Willingness and ability to travel regularly. Valid Driver’s License required.

Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment without extensive admin support.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Management of vendors and technical resources utilized to support data warehouse and data visualization solutions.

Travel:

Up to two weeks per month (assume 50% travel requirement).

Work is performed in a typical office environment. Full-time position; may require some weekend and evening work.
